Will Grier and father deny that they asked McElwain for guarantee on starting

quote:
"[McElwain] didn't really invite me back to the stadium, and it felt weird the times I would go up there," Will said. "There was this idea that I knew what I was doing, which was not the case. The players would come over to my house, but it was weird to go to the stadium with the staff. The dynamic was just off."
Will even offered to play scout-team quarterback the week of the SEC championship game to help prepare Florida's defense for Alabama. But he was turned down for that, too.
"He loved being a Gator. He loved the place, the school, the people, he was proud to be a Gator. He was all in," Chad said. "I didn't realize he had been ostracized. I underestimated the impact of what he was going through, and the fact he wasn't doing good. He was in a dark place."
quote:
After revealing to his dad that he'd been cut off, Will asked if he'd come with him to meet with McElwain "to figure this out." When McElwain showed up more than two hours late to their appointment, Chad knew it was a bad sign.
McElwain said Will was welcome to stay, but also suggested a fresh start elsewhere might not be a bad idea. After the meeting, Chad told his son, "I don't think he wants you.'"
McElwain later insinuated that the Griers had asked for a "guarantee" that Will would get the job back once he was eligible to return.
They vehemently contest that.
"I was expecting a 10-minute meeting: 'Hey, we care about your son, he's important to the program,'" Chad said. "Just wanted to know he was wanted there, because there was no plan. How are you going to help and develop him, even though he's going to have to sit out?
"The last thing we asked for was a guarantee."

Glad Grier is doing well and got out of this shitshow.
Much better for him and his career.
He should be getting Heisman consideration right now, but sadly the media sucks up to Mayfield and Barkley.
Anyone wanna stick up for McElwain here? I'll wait.

Bygones, but you expect better leadership from your QB than to use PEDs and not to clear them with the athletic dept first. so I don't have an issue with him leaving and I don't know the true story behind why this happened so I don't know who to believe. I am glad he is having success at WVU, good for him! No hard feeling from me but he did bring this on himself.

I'm more inclined to believe them than a guy who insinuates death threats and backtracks it after 2 days.

Mac has a serious credibility issue at the moment, so I am more inclined to believe their account right now. It certainly makes sense, I could see him being ostracized like that and basically pushed out the door.

Regardless, the reason Will Grier is not on our roster right now is that he used PEDs. Unless you have some proof of who said what, it is the classic, he said, he said.

I am not sure who to trust but there must be bad blood if the Judy came out and said this. I could see Mac giving pushing him away knowing LDR would be his guy next year . I think Mac and Nuss believed in LDR and thought he would be as good or better then Grier . Mac seems to have more off the field issues then on the field and we have a offense that hasn’t improved in 3 years .

Mac thought Harris was as good a QB as Grier, and made them compete though it was absolutely clear who was better, and thought Del Rio was as well.
I feel his arrogance led to this. He really had the thought that he can win with any QB, so keeping Grier wasn't important to him it feels.
Grier would have saved Mac, but Mac let him go assuming he wasn't important enough to the program. Shame.

The Griers also sued UF in the middle of whole process.
This is the perfect time for them to shite all over Mac. The media is going to jump all over this. Even homer fans like me are turning on Mac now that his offense is still shitting the bed in year 3.

McElwain brought this all on himself.
He has a huge credibility issue right now.
Huge.

Did McElwain use PEDs, I must have missed that news?
I thought Grier used PEDs and was suspended for a calendar year? Seems to me that he may have some of the fault in this sad situation. Just sayin'

I'll stick up for him: Grier used fricking PEDs. His second usage is a lifetime ban.
How fricking hard it is it to check in on what supplements his taking?
It's on his head, and when a player fricks you, it's not your fault for letting him go. This Grier talk is retarded, any coach does the same thing.

Grier received a one-year suspension, effective October 12, 2015, after it was revealed that he had tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. He said the positive test stems from the over-the-counter supplement Ligandrol, and that he was not aware it was banned, while also admitting he never followed protocol and cleared the supplement with team trainers.

Mac told him to walk.
That's on him. He could have kept him no problem.
Add in all the new death threat bullshite that has made him look like an idiot, and yeah, him having no credibility is on him.

Regardless of what really happened, we will never know. I would have told him to walk. You expect more from your team leader than to take PEDs.
And do you have proof that someone in the program has not recieved a death threat? I will wait for that. crickets! There is no proof that he is lying.

You wanna play QB at UF? Gresat, don't use PEDs...I will 100% guarantee you that Spurrier would have had nothing to do with Grier either.
So don't go piling on Mac for this...cause Spurrier would have probably never met with him and his dad to begin with, Spurrier was never one to tolerate embarrassing the school by using PEDs. Period exclamation point.

Outside of schools like Auburn, no one would have touched Grier that year. Not only did he lose a year from the suspension, he pretty much wrecked our entire season and made it harder to rebuild. At least McElwain still got 10 wins without him, but it could have been a lot worse.

I'm sorry that you don't know how to read between the lines, but I do.
"The [UAA] takes the safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and families very seriously. Our administration met with Coach McElwain this afternoon and he offered no additional details."
Then his response...
“For those who know me and people that realize I’m a real passionate guy,” McElwain said. “And a guy, there’s letting – exactly what I tell our people not to do is allow one or two misguided remarks to get to you. The care I have and passion for these players and this university – we have an unbelievable fan base. It’s great. There’s passion. When you go into that Swamp, it’s something special and our guys feel it. I feel bad for sometimes being open and honest, and yet at the same time I’ve seen this movie to understand it. If it gets to a point, then we’ll go from there.”“When it becomes unmanageable, at that point,” McElwain said. “I’ve got a lot of care for this program and these people. At the same time, allowing a couple things to get to you, you can’t do that. Ultimately, that’s the business we’re in and we’ll move forward and get ready to go play this ballgame.”
So either he is an idiot, or at best, "exaggerating" which is a nice way of saying he's a liar.

Jesus... It was a full season suspension. He would have been back by game 6 or 7 last year.
It would have been HUGE for this team to get him back.
You don't send a talent like that walking unless you have to. Let him serve his time and then let him play.
He didn't break a law. He broke a rule.
If at Florida we kicked guys off the team every time they broke a rule UF wouldn't have a fricking team.

I can read between the lines, from what I see on this board every day, I have no doubt that some Negagator has threatened someone in the program. I compliment Mac on not turning them in but in offering a warning that if it continues, he might. Your negativity about him has swayed you judgement on this issue.

Spurrier could ACTUALLY get anyone to play QB. So in that case, yeah sure walk off whomever you want.
NOAH BRINDISE played QB under spurrier for frick sake.
But when you can't develop a QB to save your fricking life, you don't walk off the best one you've got.
Unless you want to oh, say, lose your job. Which Mac is in danger of doing if things don't turn around on offense.

Listen, I'm not in the fire Jim McElwain camp. I'm off the wagon for sure, but just think staff changes are enough at this point.
But frick it, you HAVE to admit he handled this frickING BADLY.
