Most SEC qbs don't really excel until junior years and guess what? Driskel is a junior this year. Experience is everything when it comes to being a qb unless you have great talent or or have great talent surround you. Tebow is one of the few who did manage to excel as a true soph, but he talent around him and the physical build of a TE and heart of a lion.

Driskel will be fine this year...he now has the snaps and lessons under his belt and the kid can run like a deer and has heightbuild to shake tackles. I honestly think SEC defenses will be hard press to defend us this year with better wrs and exp qb in a favorable system.

That really makes no difference -- there have been tons of juniors who have sucked so that's no reason to think he'll be good this year.

I think he will be -- and I like Driskel, but sometimes I wonder if our fanbase shook him up a little too much. The biggest problem is that he can't make a mistake, which ends up being a self-fulfilling prophecy. He's going to be so worried about throwing a pick that he may make other terrible mistakes because of it.

We seriously need to support Driskel this year -any way we can- to make sure he's not a headcase.

I think Driskel has done well when you consider the pressure he was under from the getgo...first Brantley injured during Bama game...out trots true frosh Driskel with no run game support (and give Bama part credit for that)and gets blasted by future high round NFL defensive talent....if you recall though...our longest play after Brantley's injury was Driskels big run.

Then he was up against an intense qb battle with another qb through the spring/summer and up til the fall of 2012. With bvery limited snap experience he help lead us to a W in College Station and Johnny Football with College Gameday ands a halftime deficit...he made some key plays with his feet and arm. He then was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week for the UT game...again, on the road with College Gameday and UT still thinking they could win with their skinny qb Bray.

With all the drama he has been through....you have to recognize he is a career (not very many snaps yet for a career) 63% completion passer and in 2013 he was 69% passer before the injury.

I rest my case.

The Miami game was the single worst thing that could've happened to him.

We had limited run game early on without Jones and Taylor not ready...UM stacked the line and we threw the ball. Driskel threw for 297 yds...it was not a huge failure on his part when you consider WR production and OL blocking..or lack thereof.

Somehow UF fans have fixated on blaming JD when it wasnt always his fault. Our defense played stout and except for a play or two early and 1 play late...we dominated them.

No, but he made quite a few key mistakes. He missed tons of wide open WRs in that game, and his pocket awareness was absolutely terrible.

I'm not blaming that game all on Driskel (his supporting cast was herp and derping around the entire game). Also, Pease's playcalling was a little questionable as well, especially once UF got into the redzone.

But Driskel was responsible for his 2 costly INTs, and both were in the redzone.

But yes you are right, UF dominated Miami physically that day. Just not on the scoreboard.

When dishing out responsibility you really do have to look further than "he stared x down", "he threw into traffic for y".

You have to look at other factors.

Is he a dropback quarterback? No. What style did we run at that time? (Pro, which necessitates a dropback quarterback.)

Did he ever have adequate time to pass? No. That's the O-Line.

Was he told that he ought to scramble to get out of trouble, or seek the pass first? I think by inference alone we can state that the coaching staff told him to throw first, scramble as a last option. Which is his strongest attribute.

Were his receivers motivated? Good? Running the correct routes?

No, no and no.

Was there any running game at all?

No.

I sincerely have to wonder how you can shoulder two interceptions on bad throws when: There is no running game, we have a system quarterback out of his system, there is no offensive line, there's a lack of creation playcalling wise, there are no good receivers even on the field or if they are, they don't feel like helping Driskel out and finally: The fanbase doesn't support the quarterback.

I don't blame Driskel for shite last year, he did what he could while being told to suppress his nature and having -no- support from anyone on the field or off.

Kid's okay in my book, and will be just fine if he's allowed to move around the field and not asked to be Tom Brady.

I agree Straws. Jeff does NOT have to be a great QB for this to be a successful season. If the entire offense can gel, we will be fine.

Some very good points right there, I agree with some of them. It's just a damm shame JD went down last year. Now, Do I think he needs to work? Absolutely, but certainly some of the issues weren't his fault (esp. the OLine).

I really do think he'll have a solid 2014. The WRs don't worry me as much as they did a year ago, and I really like KT/Lane as our backs. Just need to stay healthy, esp. up front.

I found something Straw and I agree on...and that's the fanbase perhaps blaming Jeff for too many things not of his doing.

Interceptions are many times the result of poor route running by the WR/TE and in the UM game one in particular stands out to me...but I don't want to0 throw players under the bus...serves no good.

Again...I ask folks to goggle UnderAmour AA high school game in 2011 to see JDs strong arm...he threw one pass 70 yds while running to the sidelines and it was perfect...but WR dropped it.
Another play he ran for something like 60+ yds and broke tackles and showed speed.

He is going to catch people off guard this year and wow them...in my opinion. our team has been told over and over again that they are being disrespected by the mediaand no one thinks we can win the SEC....ir will fire up the team this fall I can assure you.

Good luck on the surgery man -- I had a surgery on my left eye when I was 16 and it was scary. Bloody tears for a week or so.
