LSU comes a calling and bringing a highly ranked # 4 team.
Last year they came to town and avenged the 2016 loss in the hurricane cancellation game. I think the 1 point loss started a slide and we lost the next game at home to A&M by 2 points and the wheels fell off.

We perform exceptionally well against conventional offenses. The offense we struggle with is the spread option with very mobile quarterbacks.
The "stand tall in the pocket" model is the one we absolutely destroy. North south running, conventional play-action style passing. Our defensive line is always too deep in the pocket to have that type of offense, and our defensive backs are too smothering for the quick passes to be effective.
The problem goes when we can't pressure and the QB can run.
However, through the air we're #2 in the nation (DBU, we were on our second backup to one of the CBs). Stop the run, and Burrow will make some mistakes with the pressure.
On offense -- exact same goddamn gameplan as last week. Bubble screens, reverses, double passes, unconventional plays (although I am going to be watching the LSU games to see how they handled other teams).

Hard to judge LSU, AU was over rated with no real run threat and Stidham looks average because of that. Miamuh is smoke and mirrors, good defense (but not nearly as stout as MSU) and average offense.
Ole Miss is awful on defense and cant run, SE Louisiana, and La Tech aren't SEC worthy...although Tech played LSU tough.
LSU fixing to tumble.

I don’t know why but I feel as if this may be Franks breakout game.

I get that feeling, too. I think this last week opened up a lot of downfield throws for the next. MSST didn't think that we had that short game, and had no plan to defend it.
Now they will probably sit on those routes and hopefully we can take some shots and slants to just keep them on their heels all game.
Franks should be successful, but their defensive backs are legitimately top ten, so if he doesn't it might not be anyone's fault.

quote:Gonna have to be a bit more aggressive this week. Not gonna beat LSU's LBs and corners to the outside everytime even when they know it's coming like we did against Mississippi State. Franks will have to challenge them over the middle and deep, and the RBs will have to keep them honest through the tackles.

Mullen and co did an awesome job of gameplanning MSU to death, but this week will tell us a lot about the true talent level of our program.

LSU has an all SEC lber, White and CB Greedy Williams and a pair of decent safeties, a starter from last year at DT and DE. Depth at DL isn't great on talent.
Offensively they lost two of their best OL an returned two starters at that position. Giles and Jefferson don't scare at WR. RB Brossette is their best RB, but LSU lacks the powerful run game they always seemed to have in the past.
Their punter is 6'5" 250...geez and they have transfer kicker in Tracey.
Color me not scared.

Get use to it

The one we faced, we were missing 2 of our defensive leaders. So we dont know if this is scheme or personnel.

It's the scheme. We had the same issues and he had the same problem at Louisville. I supposed he could have fixed it at MSU though.

It's not just the scheme, it's been our bane for the last ten years and it started under Muschamp. The problem this year is the injuries with little depth -- You definitely can't be missing your best cornerback with a true freshman backup against Kentucky.
I'm not sure if having them back would make that much difference (it has so far, Fitzgerald, athletically, is better than Kentucky's QB), but it is the mobile QB curse. Same shite happened with Tennessee in 2016 when they came back from like 21 points. When mobile quarterbacks get on their game, we just get clobbered.
Guys like Burrow and Fromm don't worry me as much as Fitzgerald and Fields. That being said, the Grantham experiment has paid off in spades. Currently sitting at #2 in Pass Defense. Awwwww yeah baby.

Where are yall rated against the run?
Posted on 10/1/18 at 2:08 pm to Porter Osborne Jr
85th against the run. 19th total
Posted on 10/1/18 at 2:11 pm to jefffan
Well that explains why you're second against the pass

We held MSST to 201 total yards of offense.
As the away team.
Missing our starting CB and his backup.
Kentucky and the FCS make up for 525 of the 863 yards between the two of them -- after that we've held all three FBS teams to 73, 161 and 104. (Rushing)
I get the axe to grind against Grantham, but those are outstanding numbers since CSU and Tennessee were over by halftime.
A lot more than can be said about UGA vs. Tennessee at home.
It was 33 - 3 on the first play of the second half. Or, basically your score the entire game - a touchdown.

I'm going to troll LSU fans hard this week for fun. They get so testy it's hilarious.

I am here to tell you this....LSU will leave the Swamp with a L.
They are the worse fans and blame everything but cant stand to give credit when it is due. That's ok...we will romp that arse...will be a fun game in the Swamp..and loud!
The tigahs get to wilt in the sun on the eastside..3rd qt their bigens will be panting for air.

That's awesome but you've also faced the two worst passing teams in the league in UK and MSU. That's inflating your stats. I'd imagine that UK is also hurting your run game stats. I was simply pointing at that if teams can run on you then your passing stats will look better.
I could honestly not care less about that man after we've had two great DCs. My only ax to grind against him was his inability to stop the run on the edge and him getting his calls in late. We'll that and his absolute refusal to sub on the DL in the 2012 SECCG that cost us a chance at playing in the natty this year.
