I was ecstatic about the Gray hire but this hire is just meh...

I trust Mullen. Has coached some big time players in Myles Garrett and Fletcher Cox.
We’ll see.
We’ll see.

I trust Mullen too but I worry about Turner from a recruiting standpoint.

If English is out and we bring in a recruiter, I love it.
Otherwise, I would expect us to look at upgrading again next year.

Grantham was a DL coach for ten years, several times in the NFL, several years in college. They're probably going to be recruiting people in tandem. I wouldn't worry about that too much.
I really want aggressive DL coaching, and hope that Turner can give us that.

I've also heard that he's accustomed to working as part of a tandem on the defensive line.
So maybe he'll take DTs while someone else takes DE/OLB.
That's only if English leaves (I think it's happening) and Torrian Gray takes over all DBs (I think it's happening).

What makes you say this? English tweeted out after the Gray hire welcoming him to the team. Didn’t seem to me that he’s on his way out but Idk.

Some smoke regarding that, or at least I've seen some people idly talking about it.
Could be nothing, but wouldn't be surprised.

Third time Mullen has hired this guy. He must like him.
Plenty of SEC experience with some great DLmen that he has coached.
UTSA thing is weird but maybe he did not want to move his family after the TAMU turnover

Yea this hire is...eh..I'm assuming we didn't get the first choice and Mullen felt comfortable bringing him back. But...going back down that far seems worrisome that far in a career. Add in his all time recruit list...six blue chips total...so not exactly a great recruiter. Oh well. I trust Mullen. Just not excited at all about it.

You guys gotta stop judging people by how they're recruiting Mississippi State.
The new coach has infinitely more support, revenue, spending -- everything that Mullen built.
People talked shite about Mullen's recruiting and if we even get one more Blue Chip we have a top 10 class.

Yes, this is Florida, not MSST.

He has had other jobs than State. But the key issue is why did he fall back to a no name school?

I had heard he may have taken the UTSA job so he wouldnt have to move his family from Texas.

"In addition to his previous time with Mullen, Turner coached at Vanderbilt (2002-05), Alabama (2006), Kentucky (2010-12) and Texas A&M (2016-17)."
Story on David Turner
I don't know why he took the UTSA. I am going to judge him on recruiting DTs and DEs and the DL in games.
