So far, we’ve signed 22 players for 2023.

20 hush schoolers
2 transfers

247 doesn’t have a clue what’s going on in the portal as of right now. That probably has something to do with the “portal analysts”, or whatever they’re called, are doing their “anaylizing”.

There’s an on-going phrase the guys on 247 use a lot:

“Billy’s moving in silence.”

If you think about the commits we got over the summer and Rashada’s flip to us, you’ll notice they came out of no where. I can only imagine that the “Portal Kombat” is being worked the same way. Just got to stay patient. We have a whole ‘nother signing date to get through.

Oh yeah, Cormani is still on the board.

Stopped reading at 247.

Portal visits coming up in next few weeks. Bowl games coming to an end as well. Let’s see what happens. Florida fans have become dreadfully impatient and impulsive.

I hope we get a good O lineman before they are picked over. The problem with so many teams using the portal now as a key strategy is most of the better ones will be signed in time for spring practice.

I probably would, but I get Paramount+ out of it so I decided to keep it.

247 has good information.

But the forum is plagued with terrible trolls.

They let anyone post there as long as they pay the $9.99/per month (or however much it costs ).

My guess is that was the case with a lot of our early season starters this season but Tarquin and White are head scratchers. All the early talk was they wanted more NIL for next season and now people are claiming that isn't it but it wouldn't surprise me if they asked for something the money people didn't want to pay. Would be curious to know what someone gives Tarquin if he signs with them and how it compared to whatever he got here this past season but we will probably not find that out.

I'm pretty sure we are shitting the bed in the portal. Every one else is loading up but I'm not sure what the hell we are doing.

Yep unless we know some good ones are wanting to come here right after their bowl game is over it doesn't make sense to sit around and let FSU and KY etc. grab all these good portal players when we have needs to address.

I agree

We supposedly have this whole army of staff just for the portal and Florida has basically done nothing. I think getting the LB'er from OSU was good but getting Mertz in my opinion was a terrible decision.

I hope we can lure McCall here not sure if that is going to happen. But there are many needs that need to be addressed in the portal especially on both sides of the L.O.S may be he is waiting till after the spring. Hope that is not the case but that is the only explanation I can come up with.

Napier's army of staff

Napier's army of staff members must be learning every little detail on these portal players as we stand around and watch other teams sign most of the good ones.

Portal season is just getting ramped up. Still 2-3 weeks left and will be many more kids that enter from teams that are playing in bowl games.

Unless they know they have some good ones ready to say they are coming right after the bowl game there is no excuse for this unless you are writing off 2023 also. The only other legit excuse for Napier would be that our big boosters arent willing to pay for these level of portal players our opponents are signing for 2023. Signing Mertz as a bridge QB instead of someone like McCall makes me wonder if that is a part of the issue.

If you haven’t figured this out, yet, then there’s no hope for you.

Lol

I really hope we do but Mertz instead of a McCall etc. becoming the portal QB and Pearsall being our only good portal guy last season that wasn't following Napier to UF has me skeptical.

No excuse for what? They still have multiple weeks for portal visitors in January.

They like Mertz. Not sure what good it’s doing to whine about the portal approach when there’s weeks left. Let’s see how it finishes and then have a reaction one way or the other.

I don't see all the reason to like Mertz so much

During his time in Wisky, Mertz totaled 5,405 yards, 38 touchdowns and 26 interceptions on 59.51% passing (460 completions on 773 attempts). In 3 season as starter.

He also finished with his Wisconsin career with minus-21 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 125 attempts.

I hope it pans out but if he is our starter traveling SALT LAKE CITY. It may very well be a very long evening for gator nation!!!

It may turn out okay or it might not. Idk why they like him, but they do. I don’t know enough about QB’ing to criticize them for taking Mertz.

I will say this, from the limited tape I’ve seen I like him better as a passer than AR.

Because if you were serious with the portal you would not stand around as your opponents get the players you need. Short of big moves right after the new year its not looking good at all.
