Obviously

Ppl can make excuses all day long but the fact remains that vs a team that we outman at every position we shouldnt have been uneasy till the last play of the game.

We outgained them 550 - 375.

UF really dominated, Virginia just kept finding ways to stay in the game. A tough team.

UF's major weaknesses this year were on the OL and in the secondary.

Virginia's strength was a tenacious pressure front 7 and their passing game.

So it was their strength, against our weakness.

Oh and UF won. Scored 36 points.

It was the second most points Virginia allowed all year. Only Clemson scored more.

Only Clemson was the other top team they played all season.

15 pt spread man. Everybody in the country knows this was supposed to bloodbath, not a dogfight

UF is not in the same place as Clemson.

It's not really close yet, IMO. They've been in 4 of the last 5 national title games.

The only other 9 win team UF played was Auburn, and that was a dog fight.

UF is now 2-2 against teams with 9 wins or more.

Yeah, other than being a bit concerned about our secondary and Grantham's scheme with that secondary, I'm not putting a whole lot of stock in a bowl game.

We have guys with one foot out the door thinking about what's next in a game that really doesn't mean much after a month away from playing. I don't think it's a conscious thing, but blowing UVA out in the Orange Bowl probably meant more to a good many fans than a good many players.

Take for example the loss to Louisville in the Sugar Bowl. That still pisses me off, but I doubt any of the guys who went on the NFL think about how embarrassing that was to the program.

Like I said, I don't think anyone is phoning it in, but UVA REALLY wanted that game and gave as all they had. All it takes is being a little in your head for a time with less talent but who is highly motivated make it close. Unfortunately, I think this is just the future of bowl games, a casualty of the playoff system.

All that in mind, I really am somewhat concerned about the third and Grantham situation like everyone, and I, given what we saw during the regular season, the problems in the bowl game weren't an aberration. I don't think anyone needs to be fired either, but I don't see next season being any better if that doesn't change.

Guys, this is the same team that lost to Miami.

Okay, we're not Clemson, no one is saying we are.

We are way better than what we played last night, and this is still the fricking Orange Bowl, in Florida at night.

We played very uninspired football from the coaches all the way to our punter who had a bad night as well.

Dabo sure talked up Virginia. They can't be that bad if Dabo says so.

I am not knocking the coaching at all except for Grantham's loose zones he likes to run at the wrong time. QBs eat it up almost every time. It's shocking he continues to do that.

Plus, we dominated them in a lot of the game. The score is not as close as it looks. We controlled the entire game.

Not sure how you blame the DC when 3 plus defenders let the QB out of their grasp to throw a ball that their guy outplayed our guy for.

Thats just stupid imo. All he can do is put them there. Missed tackles are on the players

Yeah there were a couple of times where our guys had the QB dead to rights in the backfield but I guess there is a lot of blame cake to go around:

1. Schematically, the loose coverage is what ultimately kills our defense. Even in man last night we were playing 8 yards off of the ball.

The interception Kaiir had was from press coverage, and they had no answer for that. We played press maybe 10% of the time.

2. The defensive players looked lazy, uninspired and generally like they had no intention of being there outside of Kaiir and Greenard. Wilson looked WAY off, Dean got beat every single time (a recurring problem all year).

It's on the players as well as the coaches, though, because if we played press there's no way they have as much success as they did.

Also, we never brought the CB in a blitz, which would have got home quite a few times since the QB consistently rolled to one side and we consistently crashed the other side without a problem.

Just uninspired all around.

It was ugly. We need trench improvement on both sides. Best man plays. I dont want to see Delance at OT or Heggie at OG starting next year.
Help is coming, let them play if theyre up to it

I'm actually kind of excited to see our new players coming in, if only because I know they're in Savage + Mullen's system from start to end.

Wingo and Dexter are gonna be great, and I'm hearing that Diwun Black is going to come back once he finishes up in DII.

Theres a guy on twitter who knows Black really well, takes him to UF games ect. He said he’s gonna be on campus within a year. I asked as a safety or LB and he implied Safety without going all in on an answer.

I really hope so, Diwun is a great player. I remember when I suggested he played STAR for his athleticism and length and people laughed at me.

Kid's got what it takes.

we were totally out manned by lsu and uga. played good games against both teams considering. those are 11+ win teams. silly to call them "9 win teams". hell, even auburn only lost to lsu by 3 and beat bama.

we had a good year and made another step in the right direction. we are topped out until we can beat lsu and uga.

We get LSU next year for sure, Georgia is 50/50 in the sense that it depends on which of our teams shows up. With LSU, they don't want to admit it but Burrow has made their season. Their defense hasn't been amazing (good enough to win) but their offense is going to take a major step back and we get them in the Swamp.

Georgia, just play press man and we win that game. South Carolina did it with a much worse QB and WR corps than what we have.

Really want that game back.

Yeah... I mean the only reason that game was even close was because of Trask's first INT, UVA's QB hitting nearly every 50/50 ball and the WR's making insane catches, and because of Mullen's playcalling in the 3rd Q.

That game statistically, easily should've been a 50-17 win for UF.

UF dominated every phase of that game, just not on the scoreboard.
