Using last year doesn't even make sense as to how to predict this year. Our coach was completely checked out, we had 12 players out before the first game for the season.

Including our best player on defense, our best RB and our best WR. That was just the beginning.

Kentucky had their shot last year at home. This year they're in the Swamp and I can't think of any good matchup they have. We outclass them talent wise at every level, have more spending and revenue, better everything and we're at home.

You're assuming it's going to be the same team at every level and I'm just not sure I can sign off on Mullen basically being McElwain and having no development from his team even though he has 9 years of developing a team with far less raw talent than we have right now. Especially on offense.

Reel I've already said I'm expecting 7 maybe 8 wins and I'll be really happy with that. I don't think that's negative even if you do.

I didn't say shite about 4-8 or 5-7.

He could be the answer long term. I didn't say he wasn't. I am sure as hell glad UF has a new coach. I honestly didn't care who it was this time around.

I just don't think he will turn it around in one year. This team is in a bad way right now. He needs time.

I just think it's going to take him more than one off season to clean up the bullshite Mac left for him.

A soft fricking team, both mentally and physically, with no QB.

It's tough to change a culture like that in one off season.

Just like it took McElwain a full 3 years to ruin it, I think it'll take Mullen a full 2 years at least to put it back together again.

I don't think it will take that long for this team specifically. Even when we recruit poorly, it's still top 15 in the country. The players on the field aren't bad when they have legitimate leadership and a decent weight program.

If we can't beat Kentucky at Home when Jim fricking McElwain beat them on the road with Del Rio and Franks, no Scarlett, no Van Jefferson and no Grimes, then Mullen really does need to be fired.

Two things AUTOMATICALLY change things, 1) run the ball a lot more and be effective doing it, 2) improve the special teams return and coverage units which were HORRIBLE last year. We started so many possessions in poor field position and for a young QB that's a kiss of death. Just watch replays of 2017 and see how many times we started out after kickoffs at the 12, 14 and 15 yd lines etc etc. Even punt returns sucked...no blocking.

If we don't have improved QB play

That's the one thing I'm absolutely convinced Mullen will improve. He took a kid out of high school who threw a total of ten passes and turned him into a great player in his system. I'd be worried about Grantham though. He struggles like a champ trying to stop the outside zone for some reason. It's like he's enamored with pass rushing OLBs that play poorly against the run.

Here are some of my reasons for optimism:

It isn't just a matter of Mullen turning around the program that gives me cause for being optimistic. Actually Mac did recruit some pretty good talent and Mullen inherited a roster loaded in talent....not a bare cupboard.

That talent does need shaping up and a new S&C program is going to help. Coaching of course will improve.

Defensively...I am excited to watch the team.

DL

CeCe Jefferson
Kyree Campbell played some as a true frosh and is a horse
Tedarrel Slaton is a stud & also played in 2017 as frosh
Khairi Clark has a lot of snaps under his belt
Elijah Conliffe is a 300 lb + DT & played as true frosh
Zach Carter r/s last year (injury) and will shine
Jabari Zuniga is a QB nightmare
Jachal Polite ditto
Kelvonnis Davis is another rush end
Clayton & Ancrum are DEs and one or both will be inside

Andrew Chatfield has the reputation of destroying QBs in high school and he was a real gem in recruiting along with Malik Langham

We have plenty of rotation depth and fresh legs win in the 4th qt. LOTs get worn out trying to block out speedy pass rushers. I firmly believe Chatfield is going to really help us. Zuniga, Polite, Davis have a lot of experience and have learned how to get by blockers. We have a top 3 DL corp in the SEC. You win in the trenches and our entire OL returns. I likey.
