“Malik is the starting quarterback for this upcoming game at Missouri,” Shannon said in a release. “This is his opportunity to get this team where it needs to be and not to be satisfied just because he’s the starter.”

quote:

nd while Zaire has the starting spot for now, Shannon emphasized that the quarterback battle will still be ongoing. But for now, the job is Zaire’s to lose. “Today is an opportunity for [Zaire] to run the offense and understand the expectations that we have for him,” Shannon said. “This is not a time for him to feel comfortable and feel like he’s made it. We want him to keep grinding and understand that competition is very good.”

Amazing. On to the third guy.

My expectations are literally zero right now, so Malik can do nothing but impress me.

If he balls out, I'm gonna be sick. I hope he does well, but if he does really well I'm going to just be really upset.

Dooley just said that Zaire may have one more year left? Is that true?

If Florida is able to pull in Zaire, he would join an already-crowded quarterback competition that includes redshirt freshmen Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask as well as junior Luke Del Rio. Zaire also is reportedly planning to seek a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA so that he could have two years of eligibility. Zaire did not play as a freshman in 2013 and played in only the first two games in 2015 before suffering a broken ankle. Zaire played in 17 games during his Irish career, throwing for 816 yards and six touchdowns.

Shannon says the right things better in 1 press conference than Mac sounded in dozens.

I don't think it's fair to say we won't consider Shannon -- he could come out and suck, but he looks way more poised and...

Dare I say.

Happy to be there?

Hearing that Nuss' wanted Zaire to play and McElwain wouldn't budge. Also heard that McElwain tried to high five Zaire after the touchdown and was completely ignored.

Why are you trying to put Mac down now that he is fired but you supported him a week ago ? Last week you insulted fans who didn’t think he was good enough and now your leading the charge .??

I've been talking about putting Zaire in since the second half of LSU, and was one of the things that I absolutely hated from McElwain.

I even said in the game thread against Georgia that ''Not putting in Zaire will be on the epitaph of his tenure at Florida''.

All of McElwain's supporters backed off of him after the Death Threats and Georgia debacle. You understand that opinions are malleable and can change, right?

I under stand changing your mind but to lead the charge to keep him another year and then once he is gone leading the charge to bash him is sad . Right now you must think that you were a dumb MFer before Mac was fired . Some guys backed off of supporting Mac after the death threats but you backed off after he we all knew he was going to be fired . I am sure you will lead the charge in supporting Franks next year if he thrives in the new coaches system.

I think McElwain was a dumb motherfricker, I think I did what any reasonable fan would do -- cheer on his coach while everyone unnecessarily shite on him.

Jimbo got less heat for getting the Boston Beatdown than mcElwain did for losing two very close games with half of his starting offense missing.

He didn't want to be here, so now I say: frick 'im. Glad he's gone. Now move on and stop being a salty little whiny bitch.

So a reasonable fan sticks up for a coach that can’t get the job done but will throw the young QB under the bus because he struggles like every QB that has played for Mac here. Atleast we got your boy Zaire starting now and turning this offense around . ??

The offense -- in spite of not having Toney or Davis looks much better and yes, Zaire looks like he's far more comfortable than Franks.

He didn't have a stellar game, but he still outperformed Franks through three games and without the best playmakers even on the field.

If we can't run the ball, we need to produce those yards through a mobile quarterback. Many plays bust and Zaire makes lemonade when he can.

Franks doesn't check down, he doesn't read the field, has no pocket awareness, can't read the defense, seems to be unable to see clear, wide open receivers and ultimately: Is a sitting duck.

If we had Toney, Callaway, Davis and Cleveland on the field at the same time, I think Franks could do wonders, especially with that arm. We could keep the defense off-balance.

But when 3 out of those 4 guys are either injured or out, there is no hope for this offense outside of what Zaire can do with his legs. Period.

Well we can put to bed that it was all Franks fault for us losing games. This team is poorly coached up and it shows all over the field. Special teams is the worst I've ever seen at UF, ever. The offense was always horrible but now everything else is bad as well.

I was surprised Malik made several poor reads on the option. He kept when he should have handed the ball off, handed it off when he should have kept. He made a lot of poor reads today. It's going to take several weeks to get this program going in the right direction. I'm not sure if it will be in time to beat UAB even.

Ahhh no, no we can't. I don't know why you guys don't realize that having no run threat + our best playmaker out on the field makes the game a lot harder. Davis running 5 yards a pop makes lanes open up, not having him or Toney to get those easy 5 hurt.

Perine is not the same runner.

Sitting on the bench for 7 games will make one rusty. That can be fixed pretty easily, because he did indeed make some bad reads -- when if he would have kept he would have easily gotten 8 - 15 yards.

But, as I said: It was his first game on the road with literally 0 playmakers outside of Cleveland -- but if we're missing our #1 and #2 RB it's no wonder that we can't be productive.

Fix the running game, we fix the offense.

But if we're not going to run Zaire on the read, might as well go back with Franks. It makes no sense for Zaire not to run it himself more.

I cannot honestly blame any of the players looking at this shite show every week. This is all on coaching. We got blown off the ball against Mizzou. They kicked our arse on both sides of the ball. QB didn't matter, nor did RB. It is very evident that our strength and conditioning is sorely lacking which is most likely why we've had so many injuries. That and poor technique.

We have a lot of talent on this team but it has not been coached up at all. I'm excited for the next coach to come in and rework the entire squad. We'll be back in a hurry. This is not a real long rebuild.

Do you ever run out of excuses? We were missing Davis and Toney but we played one of the worst defenses in college football. Only one team has scored less points against Missouri then us and that’s only because of the TD by Franks at the end of the game or we would have scored the fewest points . Are you troll? It’s like your a troll or you don’t even watch college football. Missouri’s defense has been horrible and it’s the reason they were win less in conference play till they played your boy Zaire.

We're one of the worst offenses in the country. And no, we were missing: Davis, Toney, Callaway, Scarlett and both defensive captains along with several other key players while playing on the road after a scandalous week.

It's like you guys have no idea that this is college football and that they're a bunch of young players.

We're down 21 scholarships, that's worse than probation.

I'm sorry I don't think your boy Franks is a good quarterback because he fricking isn't. Zaire has no weapons on offense, Franks had two of the most electric freshmen out there helping him out and that matters.

You want to throw Franks out there so he can eat bags of dicks, be my guest. He hasn't looked good outside of one quarter all season and that was against Vanderbilt.

If we have no Toney/Davis, the only playmaker left is Davis and his legs.

21 Scholarships down is not an excuse, especially when they're at the most important parts of offense and defense.

Two starting defensive linemen.

Both starting safeties.

Two starting Linebackers.

Two more defensive linemen.

Our most productive receivers outside of Cleveland.

BOTH of our most productive running backs.

Our most productive QB in the system left behind.

Asking any team to overcome all of those missing players COMBINED with losing their head coach?

And you think it's telling that Zaire isn't good because he's had to deal with that while Franks had a fraction of that shitshow to deal with?

You have zero idea of what you're talking about, and more obsessed with being right (that's why you always fall back on prior arguments) than you do of looking at the reality:

Under Zaire, we have only had a broken team who lost all of its seniority and its coach. Franks didn't have that problem for the last four weeks.
