Multiple sources indicated to Sports Illustrated-AllGators over the weekend that several Florida Gators football players intended to holdout of, at least, the team's first fall training camp practice today, and Gators head coach Dan Mullen confirmed that multiple players did not show up to practice on Monday in a Zoom press conference.

At least four players are confirmed to be holding out, according to sources: Wide receivers Kadarius Toney, Trevon Grimes, and Jacob Copeland, and defensive end Zachary Carter.

"We had a couple guys not practice today, but we'll see how that goes moving forward for us. But, you know, I wouldn't be surprised if you have guys opt out. I'm going to support them fully," Mullen said on Monday. "Really wouldn't be surprised if we had coaches opt-out, to be honest with you. Coaches are at such high risk because of the age group that they're in. So statistically I think coaches are probably even at a higher risk. I think when you look at those things, but we'll figure it out. We're going to adapt to whatever happens as we continue to move forward."

what a bunch of fricking pussies these guys are.

Dammit man. I hope they work things out. I'm unsure of their reasoning but playing time shouldn't be one of them.

I would love to see these guys play but if they want to give up a year of eligibility over what amounts to the flu, so be it. I'll be pulling for the players that play. Go Gators.

Kyle Trask: "I'll wait three years behind a guy, come back from two broken feet, nearly have my knee ripped out of its socket, limp my way onto the field just to get the chance to play some more."

Toney, Grimes, Copeland:

If you look at Copeland's twitter, he said "Say it a little louder for the ones in the back." to a tweet that said "Some Of These Big Time College Coaches Ran From The Cameras & Was Silent During The Black Lives Matter Movement. But They Front & Center Now About Playing College Football!!!Face with rolling eyes"

So does this insinuate that because Mullen was not big of the BLM movement and didn't want to get involved (probably the best move to stay PC), and they don't see him as supporting them?

That's how I read it, but I could be way off.

Either that or they're dumb enough to think they're going to get paid this season.

I mean, they could be shite talking FSU with that, I think Florida and Mullen took the side of BLM (albeit kind of lukewarm). If that's their reasoning I think it's pretty stupid.

Toney's been talking about skipping the season for a while because of COVID, but he's always been kind of dumb (no offense, but he was talking about leaving early to the NFL).

No matter, next men up. Pitts is all about playing, and I'm sure he'll get targeted pretty often.

this motherfricker can go ahead and get to kicking rocks as far as i'm concerned. he's done utterly nothing to warrant the praise he gets. i can go out there and juke and zig zag all over the field, but he isn't a percy harvin by any stretch of the imagination.

the only play i remember him making was against miami. everything else has been a dance number from sideline to sideline.

Mullen made a BLM statement but a very generic one.

We need Grimes and Copeland. Toney is an added bonus. Carter...we got pass rushers for days your value is minimum. He and Grimes sitting out could cost them millions

The only one of the 4 I think that Mullen needs to play is Grimes. He has the most experience and could be a second or third round pick if he plays and if he doesn't could fall to sixth or seventh round or go undrafted. So Grimes has alot to lose if he doesn't play

Copeland nor toney did much last year and as for as pass rushers go for this year losing Carter not a big deal.

Personally, to me, they all can.

Copeland has always been attention seeking, Toney has been weird for a while and constantly flipflops. Grimes is just silly, he's costing himself a lot of money for almost no reason. He would get the lion's share of targets outside of Pitts, so hopefully this is just for a day or two and he comes to his senses.

I've about had enough of Copeland and Toney, though, as much as I love them both it's either put up or shut up.

I am predicting 9-1 with a loss to either LSU or TA&M just because they are back to back.

UG will have 3 losses as will Tenn. Gators win the East and face Bama in the SECCG for the 15th time.

From a football only perspective that would really hurt. Why the frick do we have the worst luck ever? Why are all our starters sitting and not backups? uuugggghhhh

Nah, I get it.

These guys are dispirited about certain things (some people have been saying it's about pay) but to me? These are athletes, COVID's real, other sports are starting to pick up again. It sucks, but it's just the way the world is.

They've been given scholarships that are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars if not millions. If you get free education, free housing, free meal plans, free medical + dental and access to one of the best coaching staffs and facilities in the country?

If the SEC says we're playing, you just play. That's it. If the NFL says we're playing, you play.

Toney has literally been looking for any excuse not to play. He wanted to go early to the NFL last season and his draft grades were obviously a joke. This season it's COVID/paying players (he's been talking about this off and on) and honestly I'm just tired of flipflops of players.

COVID kills the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. I get Grimes, his mom has been sick for a while and if he doesn't want to put her at risk then I totally understand. He's here to take care of her, after all. Zachary Carter has been talking about paying players, and I just have no sympathy.

How much money do you think you'd have to pay an hour to get coaching from Dan Mullen?

Sorry to blast you with this, but it's something I've been a little upset about when they start complaining about paychecks.

fact! college athletes are at a minimum risk. More likely to get struck by lightning.

underlying reason for discontent from most players.

I find myself agreeing with Straws a lot lately.

If the team is playing and you are a player, get to practice!!!

I don't want to sound harsh, but yeah at least two of the guys mentioned (Carter and Toney) have been all about getting paid.

Unfortunately, the only thing that will happen is the NCAA will pay them...after they take money out for housing, their scholarship, dorm expenses (and on and on) so it'll literally be the same. It's a huge mess.

That being said, I'd let Grimes take time off because he is taking care of his elderly mother (which is why he came to Florida in the first place). Toney and Carter can frick off. I think Copeland may just be in trouble/injured, because there were some social media posts that said he wanted to play this year.
