First off, let’s take a step back and really evaluate the past 3 years instead of the 3-4 losses we had this year.

Season 1) 10 win season
Season 2) 10 win season
Season 3) 8 win season*

* - Covid season. Take away the extra 2 SEC games for 2 cupcakes + FSU and we possibly have another 10 win season.

Those 3 seasons had a very productive offense compared to years past, and the first 2 years had pretty dominating defenses.

We were 12 points away from an undefeated season. The offense would score at will. But a retarded defense kept that from happening.

As pessimistic as I usually am, I still have some confidence in Mullen and this team going forward.

That game last night was the first time Emory has seen any kind of significant playing time. I’d like to give him one more spring to prove himself.

So, as disappointing as this season was, I don’t think Mac or Champ would’ve had us in the opportunities we’ve had the past 3 years. I really don’t.

2 for 3 in 3 straight NY6 bowls?
SEC Championship birth?
Taking Bama to the wire?

Let’s all calm down and see what the spring brings. There’s going to be new faces all around, so it’ll definitely be interesting.

Ehh, I'm off the Mullen Train for now for a few reasons:

First and foremost, he's got a really bad ego that he needs to start checking more. The worst part of it is that the answers he gives seem to show that he's very disconnected with what's actually wrong with the team. "The offense needs to do x even though this is the worst defense we've had in 70 years", "we lost because of A&M's really big crowd", "we played more games", just overall stinkers in the press area.

Second: Sticks to coordinators no matter how bad they are. I really don't care about everyone else on the offensive side, we had a very explosive offense and just had three receivers sit to prepare for the draft. But the DC is a major liability and that he hasn't been fired yet is pretty damning.

Third: Prefers Quarterbacks who won't win him championships over those who might actually do it. The way he treated Trask and wrote him off as leaving immediately leaves a pretty sour taste in my mouth. Especially after he chose Emory Jones over Matt Corral, and while Corral has had some stinkers, he's working with yet another coach at an Ole Miss team that sucks.

Jones over Trask.
Franks over Trask.
Jones over Corral.

For a QB Guru he has really fricked up priorities regarding who can actually get shite done.

I agree with his ego, but do we really expect him to tell us what’s really going on with the team? Not every coach is the Spurrier type.

Mullen can't hold Spurrier's jock.

And that being said: You don't need to be an a-hole, you just have to explain things.

"You know, the defense isn't where I want it to be, and of course it's not the kid's fault. It's our job to get them in a position to succeed and we haven't been doing that."

Period. That's it. You don't talk about a once in a decade offense with a record breaking offense not pulling its weight. That's just weird.

1.he’s an a-hole and you can only get away with being this level of a-hole if you win. He ain’t won shite.
2. Worst defense in Florida history. Let that sink in. Under his watch.
3. Recruiting is meh.
4. Discipline and toughness is zook level.

He’s got a lot to prove in my book. That lsu loss alone... if I was his boss I’d be super worried I hired the wrong guy on that loss alone.

11-2 in 18. This was when we had exp all sec talent on the edges.

Idk I loved what I saw out of Ant Richardson last night. We got hometown monster in that kid.

D was so much better last 2 years top 10 or 20 in most everything. I'm not giving up hope it gets better. Not great tho either

Also offense had 3 practices smh. WIth our top 4 pass catchers out. Big fellas in the middle and Miller gone

Mullen hasn't gotten to play with a QB that can run the ball yet. Emory or Ant one of em gone be really good

Ant already looking like a grown man as a true freshmen faster too lol

He’s fkn up... Period. As a HC you set the tone for your team. Mullen treated this like a practice game for the young guys and got embarrassed.

On the other hand, a coach like Mike Leach said We’ll play anybody anywhere and he’s got the youngest team in CFB. 4 Freshman scored in that game.
Army the same. We’ll play anybody.. bring it on

Happy New Year !! First of all fellow Gators.

Secondly, who stole Finch's password and posted this thread ?? This is the best thread he has ever started folks. Damn, just when I thought I knew the guy Very positive and I commend you.

Let me wade into the deep side of the pool and give my assessments good n bad.

Bad, the somewhat erratic pressers that Straws alluded to. Just own the fricking loss and dont set yourself up for every rival and some fans to throw darts at you. As I have stated before....Spurrier would say we were outcoached and out played and give the other team credit.
Mullen is starting to have other SEC coaches feel like he is smug and cocky without backing it up.

Discipline is poor and Mullen may be too soft. We have to expect better....it isnt the Gator Standard that he likes to spout about.

The good about 2020 was the OL did progress except for starting Reese...who continually messed up assignments in my eyes. We have a lot of other OL and surely we could have put them in instead. Reese is a big kid....but he got pushed around way too much. We do have a corp of returning starters and plenty of r/s frosh and sophs.

Next year will be harder w/o Trask...Straws and I agree Emory isnt the answer...and if AR is a savior..it wont be his R/S year...thats too much to ask in the SEC. If we run the ball more it will help the defense.

And speaking of the defense..I honestly dont think many DCs are going to have sterling records when the offense is throwing the ball 80-85% of the time.

Look around at defenses...the teams that rely on passing a lot will have games where its a shoot out...like Bama against us & Ole Miss....and they have a good run game. When the other team is throwing it all over the field...you have to keep scoring. College football has turned into a video game.

In the recent and older past...the true axiom was the team that out gained you on the ground almost always won, well that can be discarded now. Defenses now are glad to hold a team to 30 points. Never thought I would see that.
