How would you design your defense for tomorrow to beat UF?

Try to what UK did to us. Just line up and run over them. Make UF prove they can tackle. I don't think UT is as capable of doing it. But I didn't think UK would ever be able to do it either.

On offense I would run the ball straight into the defense. I would make the defense show that it’s not as soft as it looked against UK .

On defense I would bring pressure early in the game till Mullen starts to run the ball more . We seem to start the games passing the ball a lot . They need to get ahead of us early before Mullen starts to get Perine or Pierce in the game running .

I'd zone blitz all day. Confuse Franks and the Oline. If he can't read the blitz and who drops off well it's trouble. Which..he can't. He can progress man reads okay now but figuring out zone blitz...not happening.

Exactly what I said during the Spring Game:

Cheat your safeties on the outside of the hash marks and protect the perimeter.

Franks has a dangerously low amount of passes completed over the middle. If you can force him to pass over the center and stay in the pocket, he will throw around 50%.

So that means: Rush at least five, and make Franks read the field. You'll probably stop the run and his inability to get the ball to where it ought to be will mean that, statistically, you will be able to shut down the offense.

There are a lot of folks predicting UT to win the game because of home field and its a night game.

I have watched UT and they will have to change stripes to pull it off.

They played ETSU...which is like playing a JC squad since they only started their football program back up after an hiatus just three yrs ago. ETSU was in the UT backfield a lot pressuring the QB. Imagine a program only 3 yrs old doing this. UTEP has lost 15 STRAIGHT games and gave UT problems..before folding 24-0.

It doesn't mean we win...but UT is not very good and I would like to believe our coaches have worked OT to come up with a good solid plan. UT doesn't have the talent we do quite simply. But it wouldn't be the first time a better team loses...its in the dictionary under the word "UPSET".

It all boils down to whether our OL can control the line and our run game is effective. You must run well to win.
Its that simple. Not worried so much about the defense holding their own...but we must gain positive yds on first down and move chains to keep crowd quiet and keep defense rested. I wish that Perine started the game with his tough running skills to make the crowd quiet.

reel, i don't have very much confidence in this team to jerk each other off, much less pull of a win at night in neyland stadium. we lost to kentucky at home at night. why would you expect better when we're the away team?

Cause Kentucky is a significantly better team than Tenn...and they are. Kentucky is a solid team. Tenn sucks. Badly.

Vandy just went to ND and almost beat them after ND beat down Michigan. Vandy and UK aren't the same teams they once were.

That I could definitely believe.

I know we lost to Kentucky at home, but there's a chance they might actually be decent this year.

I don't think Tennessee has the offensive line to beat our defensive line right now, and getting some big time players this week will make it harder.

However, as I've said: if we can't score points, it's moot. The offense needs to do its job.

Yee of little faith...you are comparing UT to losing to UK? Are you smoking some strong shite? UK is going prove to the SEC that they aren't pushovers...if you watch football Finch they have been improving slightly under Stoops the past two years and this year they are much stronger/faster than ever.

Im not predicting UF wins...never said that...I was fair in my assessment about UT...they lack talent and depth. I think if we can establish the run they will fold in the third qt. Turnovers are huge...but keep an eye out for rushing totals...that alone will tell you who wins.

Mullen knows the stats...you have to out rush your foe to win. Everything else is window dressing.

On another note: I hope Gators don't post idiotic crap about their own team on the rant game thread early in the game. We could be looking bad in the first half and then you never know what will happen in the second half. Someone tell Box this...cause he is so quick to make early game judgements. I don't get on the internet in away games cause Im too intent on watching the game from the comfort of the family room and especially looking at the OL & DLs where most games are won or lost.

Agreed. Kentucky has senior leadership and some guys going to the NFL this year. Was a tough spot. New system. Kentucky insanely motivated and a stable staff. We should have lost last year. This year the field goal and the review hurt us. Last year their dumb holding and not covering lost it. The ball finally didn't roll our way.

We can score. I watched all three games though condensed. Tenn defense is very suspect. We should be able to run on them, and the deep ball should work once or twice with their secondary.

Add in if we use misdirection with Toney, Swain, etc I see them letting big yards on those plays. Defense is still learning discipline you can tell.

I think this game is actually going to be higher scoring than I thought originally. Our biggest advantage..special teams. We will get a block or big return I almost guarantee it. They also fumble a lot

Vols will go ball control on offense to limit pressure on their Swiss cheese OL and Guarantano. Their RBs are pretty underrated.

Defensively, there's no reason to not line up in a Nickel Cover-2 every down. TEs can't capitalize down the seams (will drop every pass) and OL can't hold up long enough for outside receivers to beat press coverage.

Franks is more likely to lose the turnover battle IMO, and that will be the ball game.

Couldn't be happier to be wrong. Feleipe has had some bad throw/near picks, but he is playing so much better than last year. He's played within the offense all season; I'm really impressed.

And he is slowly regressing to old Feleipe as each drive comes to an end.

5 - 14 for 106 yards, half of those coming off of one play.

We will never have a successful offense, a consistently successful offense with him at the helm.
