Will be in town next weekend for the first time in about 10 years. Any advice is welcome.

Some of the old favorites of course. CJ’s - oops
Burrito Bro’s - same.

Oh well, I’ve gotten too old to know anymore. My brain is pickled from my youth.

Marks prime downtown is good.
Depends on what you like really.
I could name a lot of little spots to go that are affordable for a college kid.

If you like Mexican, La Tienda is where it’s at, followed closely by el Indio

Made my first trip to Gainesville this year and we ate at Ballyhoo Grill. Everybody at the table loved our food. Highly recommend it

Thanks I live in Dallas so not really looking for Mexican. Any good raw bars? Sports bars? Looking more for casual rather than upscale.

BoX covered some good casual spots.

Swamp is really good and right across from the stadium. I think copper monkey closed down and now it’s called JJ’s tavern. Haven’t been but my buddies still in school go there often.
As far as raw bar, I’m not sure if it’s still open but Shucks was right behind swamp and they had some decent oysters. There’s also a Harry’s downtown.

Mothers is between mid town and down town, good burgers, Irish type bar.

For pizza you can’t beat blue highways Sicilian. The one off 441 in micanopy is the original. Closer in town on 441 and university is Piesanos which is also a good pizza and bar.

If more come to mind I’ll post up.
I left Gville early 16 so some things might have changed since then!

And if you just want to get drunk and have some fried bar food right next to the stadium, I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you to go to Salty Dog. Spent many a thousand dollars up there over my years lol. It will be a college aged crowd tho.

Depends on how much money you want to spend and what kind of people you want to be around:

Manuel's Vintage Room - best Italian food in Gainesville. Also has some good steak specials sometimes. After enjoying a good meal and some of their fine wine, walk around the corner to Madrina's and have an awesome cocktail at this new cocktail bar. Ken Eats Gainesville LOVES this place, and so do I. It's tiny and intimate, and the drinks are awesome. Reservation at Manuel's is recommended.

The Top - Still an amusing place to go if you have time to kill. Go put your name in and then kill an hour at the bar. There is plenty of tasty food. I recommend the corn nuggets. After dinner, go accross the street to Arcade Bar and play video games and Skee-ball for a while. Don't go if you hate hipsters.

Crane Ramen - for some of the best ramen around.

Embers - If you want to set up a really fancy dinner, go here. It's better than Mark's IMO. You need a reservation for sure.

Piper Gis - Some of the BEST HOT SANDWICHES I HAVE EVER HAD. You should definitely go here for lunch, and hell, go there for dinner too.

Emilianos - Go get some tasty latin-fusion food and a bunch of Sangria. Then stumble over to Oak and order a giant Moscow mule for your entire party.

Just a few ideas. There are so many places to go eat and drink now.

Mark's Prime I went to right before I left. Really wish I went before. Place was very good.

Pizza will always be Satchel's to me. No question
Mexican I always went near work for it once a week never really went anywhere else. La Fiesta all day

Ember's is obviously awesome but it will cost a bit.

However; I usually didn't go to fancy dinner spots. Just don't like paying for nights out, plus in Gainesville I was dating. So didn't want to spend 100's on a date with some girl I'd probably sleep with and never call back.

My favorite spots

Gumby's. Really good pricing and left happy most of the time. Had really cute counter girls as well. Wings suck there. Calzone or Pizza...don't deter from those two

Yamato - Took my Mom there every time she visited. Love that place.

Ballyhoo - Really awesome

I had a sushi place and can't remember it's name...was near the movies next to Gator's dockside. Went there a ton and for the life of me can't remember what it's called.

Applebee's on Newberry was really good. One on 13th is hot garbage.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the info. Should be a lot of fun. Salty Dog opened the same year I went to Florida. There used to be a bunch of raw bars. Ricky's, Calico Jack's Nellies, Purple Porpoise. Going to the Georgia basketball game next Wed and baseball vs Siena. Can't wait.

For a sports bar, you can check out the Social at midtown. They renovated Gator City/XS a couple years ago and made a huge open concept sports bar with a rooftop bar. They usually have $3 local craft beers on draft for happy hour and the chicken tenders are really good. The service is not that great though. Most people will go here before/after baseball/basketball games.

The Top, like others have suggested, is really good. I usually get the Maradona burger with sweet potato fries. It's downtown and casual. Be prepared to wait around an hour for a table though.

There are also several breweries you should check out if you have some free time. I'm not sure about raw bars. Enjoy your trip!

Good points, Social is good before and after games.

There are a bunch of breweries that have popped up in recent years. Swamphead and First Magnitude are the biggest. Black Adder is smaller but really good.
