Porter, I will defend your right to defend your team in here, but just be mindful that some of us Gator fans are more than a little aggravated that UGa is kicking our arse in recruiting and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for you guys to have all these great classes and UF not to be even in the same ballpark. So probably the #1 topic for you to avoid. Cheers buddy

Fair enough.

I still see no reason why UF isn’t in the top 10 every year outside of having coaches who aren’t great recruiters. Grantham will always bring in talent at OLB though. A top ten program in the state of Florida with the other two down should be killing it right now.

Spurrier didn't recruit well...he hated doing it and it took him off the links. But he had Ron Zook as an asst who was a relentless recruiter. If we had Ron Zook on staff who had the energy of the 1990s version..we would own the state and cherry pick the southeast. Remember its a fact that Meyer won the 2006 BCS with Zook's players...especially on defense.

I know Spurrier didn’t put much effort into but it didn’t seem like he needed too either. It felt like they had such an exciting offense that recruits just flocked there. Are there any coaches who might be expendable to bring in so big name recruiters?

Florida Podcast talking about recruiting, specifically Bagmen.

"Florida doesn't even talk to players with 'handlers', let alone have bagmen."

To say UF does not have any bagmen is ridiculous. Our recruits and players get taken care of in a number of ways. It is just not to the level of organization of Bama and UGA nor is it as public as Ole Miss under Freeze.

UF does avoid certain players with handlers, but UF does talk with handlers. We even have a former handler on our recruiting staff right now. Mullen's initial recruiting staff had 2 infamous handlers in Cali. Why would Mullen hire those 3 guys if we were not dealing with bagmen or handlers?

I don't understand why we just can't admit our recruiting isn't exactly where we want it to be and leave it at that and just hope that they close strong at positions of need at S, DT, OT, and WR?

We'll be fine at least for 1 more year at safety and WR.

DT and OT is gonna be a huge problem next year.

Those guys are directly connected with the recruiting analysts, one is an NFL Scout -- and all of them say "We wish we were doing it."

Of course there are some handshakes here and there, but I guarantee you that Florida isn't doing it beyond very, very clandestine channels.

Similarly, we are still the only Championship winning basketball team who has not been investigated.

Did we actually ever land someone from the Rat Pack? Any highly rated recruit?

In my hopes and dreams it means we're going to at least start playing by the same rules as everyone else. Right now, I don't think there's any doubt in anyone's mind that we're not. Otherwise our recruiting wouldn't be that stagnant and unmoving.

Again, Kirby and Saban don't just have sweet mouths that know how to suck out a commitment, nor are they saying anything very different.

Some scholarships are just worth more than others.

Spurrier was an example of someone who would NEVER tolerate cheating...period. He hated cheaters. I am in full agreement with him...I still have painful memories of the 1983-86 NCAA jail time.

We were punished severely unlike any team before or after except for SMU. We weren't allowed on TV for 2 years and had schollys taken away and of course who benefitted? Aw shucks Bowden. But in 1987 when we came off jail time we signed a kid named Emmitt after a fight with AU.

It's because a lot of the younger guys (myself included, I only knew because of my mom telling me about it since she graduated at UF before I was born) have no idea how severely Florida was punished. We really just got lucky to bounce back (much like Alabama) and continue to grow the legend.

Because of this, I doubt we're playing with the same deck. As I said before: We are the only National Championship team in basketball not to be investigated in the last 20~ years.

All I know is the University of Washington has a five star commit...and we don't. This is not good. I love Dan, but he has had enough time to generate pipelines and get in the ears of players. This has to improve. We are not Miss State...we need to stop recruiting like we are. Maybe it's time we use Mike White in football recruiting too...cause the dude is a stud at basketball recruiting following the same rules Mullen is.

5-star Brenton Cox, recruited from the transfer portal.

Let the man work.

You wanna see poor arse recruiting? Look at Wisconsin and all they do is crush folks. They take 2 and 3 star players and develop them. Wouldn't want to play them in a bowl.

Im not saying we should follow their lead....but we don't know yet what this years harvest will be like once NSD is here. A lot can happen and if we have the kinda year I'm thinking of...then there will be flips and we can snag transfers.

Count me as totally against cheating. I fish tournaments for some large payouts (up to 110,000 cash) and a team cheating would be shunned forever and might have boat/truck damage from vandalism.

I'm not saying we need to recruit like Bama or Georgia...but we aren't winning a national title without getting those key players just going on statistical averages of national champions. Even Spurrier...Spurrier of all people commented on the recruiting. The guy known to hate recruiting said we need to recruit better.

I'm not trying to be negative here, just realistic. This has to improve. Hopefully the fans and team show out vs Auburn like LSU last year and we land a commit or two and really up our chances with a few more with that live experience.

Coach White picked up his first commit for the 2020 class this weekend. Not sure how many we are going to be able to land with only one senior. We have several possibly going pro after this season, depending on their production. Currently 13 players on scholarship, and a preferred walk-on give us 14 on the roster.
