And just as an addendum: Kirby looks to be a frickin' awful head coach. He's recruiting his balls off, but if it doesn't transfer onto the field, I don't see why we're freaking out just yet.
As long as we don't have positions with too few players (like linebacker), I'm okay with having guys like Vosean Joseph coming in and fricking wrecking.

LET ME REPEAT.....its not NSD....so no one can say our recruiting is bad...period!! I think we will find out the very opposite on Wednsday my friends...and heres another tidbit for y'all. A lot of these players we are recruiting have been advised to not advertise a committment to UF and the reason is so they arent overrun by media from various rivals, rival coaches, high school classmates etc etc. I would not be shocked if Blades signs with us...or not.
Recruiting boards out there are needing clicks to get ads AND memberships sold...so they will intentially foul the waters to get folks to keep logging on....and dont think for a minute that they want do it sometimes. Our moderator can verify that...the Rant doesnt do much ads and isnt as likely to skew news reports...which is refreshing. Some boards are non stop with huge ads....and you pay to see them...hmmm.

This makes no sense this close to signing day. Its 5 days away.

NSD in 5 days. My recommendation is just lie low until that passes.

Who? I love the vague insider BS that gets "telephone game" treatment. It is not like UF had a ton of commits at the UAA game.
I don't know what players it was specifically and these writers wont name anyone either because then they lose their connections but 3 different recruiting analysts put out pretty much the same thing on twitter and on their site. You are right we didn't have a ton of commits at the game but we had a lot of people with offers at the game and were scheduled for visits. I listen to these "insiders" and think there probably is 70% truth to what they are saying. I thought it was interesting what is happening at these games when it deals with our team.
Straws you are right UGA is killing it right now in recruiting has more 4/5*'s than the rest of the east combined.
I don't get the don't advertise your commitment thing. Why would our school say hey lets make it look like we are having a down year in recruiting, making a portion of our fan base and the media talk about how bad we are doing on national TV and public forums that other recruits see just to haul a huge class on NSD.
Reel you are right about fans talking to these kids. Some where bashing Blades when he decommitted even Jordan Scarlett tweeted about it and he replied to him saying essentially why all the hate when I just want to stay close to home. He is gone.
In other news DT Tyrone Truesdell has canceled his visit to us this weekend and is going to Auburn to visit. We are looking at other DT so not a huge loss we are supposedly confident on 4 signing.
LB Nick Smith is announcing his decision tomorrow at 6pm.
Cam Spence might be a guy we are not projected for that we land visited 2 weekends ago.
We just offered DE Abule Abadi. He is currently unranked but is 6'7" tall we could work with that.
Crystal Ball Concliffe to UF.
Here is a link to all our updated offers. LINK

Actually, he played very well in the games he played in for a TR FR linebacker.

This is such a stupid thought process. So the coaches are purposefully holding back commitments while the national perception is a negative one about our recruiting. How does that help with prospects that haven't given a silent to the staff yet that we still want? The silent commit angle is such smoke and mirrors bullshite that sunshine pumpers spew about when they have their heads in the sand over poor recruiting.

So you prefer coaches who signed high but couldn't do shite on the field than a coach who signs top 20 but finishes ranked?
frick you guys are delusional on here these days.
I think you are putting words in people's mouths. Every time I see someone point to Muschamp's recruiting, I see someone like you pull the above. How about people want a coach that can do both. Elite coaching and recruiting is how you win titles. Pointing to Muschamp's elite recruiting is just showing that Mac isn't up to snuff there. Nobody says they'd prefer Muschamp to be back.

All I hear is about how Muschamp recruited so well -- well, it didn't seem to help him at all.
McElwain has done more with less, PERIOD. There's nothing you can say to negate it. I'm just saying that he's done well considering, winning makes it easier and having a shaky quarterback situation has made it difficult.
Having tons of players graduate early for the NFL is also a problem, but our freshmen seem to be doing pretty well considering.
I'm just saying he's not going to come in and haul top ten rankings when we were lucky to breach 20 when he came in. It'll come once we have a decent quarterback and the defense settles down coaching wise.
Posted on 1/27/17 at 8:41 pm to StrawsDrawnAtRandom
What are talking about lucky to break 20? You are making things up to fit your narrative. The only classes that have ranked poorly are under macs watch. Three straight classes outside the top 10. You keep pretending like recruiting problems were something he inherited. That is delusional bullshite. Sure he's a better coach the muschamp, but he needs to recruit better. He just does. Stop making excuses. How do we win a title if we get blown out by fsu and bama every year, with our talent level steadily dropping each year as well?
Posted on 1/27/17 at 9:30 pm to monkeybutt
The first class is the only class he has an excuse for. That class was ranked in the 100's when he took over. I can't complain about last years class when we have so many guys that contributed immediately. Also, don't act like Vosean Joseph's hype is off of one play. Go back and watch him in the Iowa game. He was ALL OVER the place in that game. Last years class was better than it was ranked in terms of production of the guys as true freshmen.
This year, my biggest concern is the fact that we can't seem to lock down guys that we're considered favorites for. Were getting some nice players, but we need to get back to getting the physically gifted guys that are ranked in the top 50 and top 25 overall players in the country. I still am holding out hope that Mac can get this staff right recruiting wise, because I am completely sold on him as a coach.
We will still close strong. Things are never as good or as bad as they may seem. We're probably getting at least three commits in the next two days, and we will get several more come NSD. Lets hope the staff closes this class strong, makes good hires, and next years class is better than this years.

The first class he took over was ranked over 100th when he took over and he had something like 10 recruits committed in December.

That was before McElwain's last year, when he took over. Do you even follow Gator football?
quote:
You keep pretending like recruiting problems were something he inherited.
Yeah, look at what he inherited the last year recruiting wise and look at the recruits he brought in after Muschamp left.
quote:
That is delusional bullshite.
No, it's you not knowing the situation when he arrived.
quote:
Sure he's a better coach the muschamp
Everyone knows.

but he needs to recruit better.
He's going to, but he came right before we went into the dark ages of our program. We were struggling to bowl and had just come off a loss to an FCS. He didn't inherit, say, a team that had just came off of a National Championship.
quote:
Stop making excuses.
Legitimate excuses exist, and as I said: You are vastly overestimating the depth Muschamp left, especially on offense. Even on defense, behind the juniors (last year) there was no one at linebacker which is why we have all true-freshmen playing at that position.
Dudes left early, and it's hard for an incoming head coach coming into a new program that was struggling to bowl every year with no offensive line, quarterback or kicker to come in and recruit his arse off.
quote:
ow do we win a title if we get blown out by fsu and bama every year, with our talent level steadily dropping each year as well?
I'm not so sure it's dropped off. CeCe has been great, Vosean Joseph did very well, so did the other fill ins. Chauncy Gardner won the Outback Bowl MVP, Cleveland and Calloway look amazing for their age.
I mean, we're seeing progress at every level including DB's under McElwain. The scheming is better, we shut out opponents and set records on defense.
Again, you are vastly overestimating what we had.
And I hate to say it, but we have not been a top-tier program since 2012, and even that was fool's gold.

Recruiting ranked in the hundreds when he took over for the simple reason that we had a small number of commits. The simple fact of adding bodies brought us up to the 20s. Cece and Ivey skyrocketed the ranking, and they were always gonna be gators. Mac didn't pull off some godsend recruiting for his transition class, it just seems like most people that point to the large jump don't understand the nature of class rankings. Last year we ranked around 6th for much of the season and people thought we would legitimately finish there, despite the fact that we were only that high due to having more commits than everyone else. Same thing is happening with tenn this year. Number 11 class with 28 commits, almost all 3 stars. Well a lot of teams are gonna pass them up when they start adding bodies this last week. That was macs transition class, just in reverse.
Then his bump class didn't crack the top ten. Now in his third year of recruiting, he appears to be going backwards. It's gonna take a miracle finish to hit the 12 spot again. Yet he's going to just start recruiting better according to you based on what exactly? He needs to change his approach or something. We're not winning crap in the sec with 15th ranked classes.
I'm not here to argue about what he was left with and all that. This is a recruiting thread and I came here to point out to you, since you seem to think otherwise, that people who want an elite recruiter are not wanting it in spite of good coaching. You are allowed to have both qualities in the same coach. It's rare, but possible.

You're not here to argue yet it's the only thing you've done so far.
If you really think that class was going in the right direction, then that's fine, you're just stupid. We were on our way to a long, long decline before that happened.
It would have been irreversible after this season, and we're lucky that we're in the top 20. Yeah, I said that, and it's not getting taken back.
We'll see what happens on NSD, but I'm just glad Muschamp is gone and we're back to, at the very least, winning the division -- which some Gator ''fans'' with alters seem to balk at.

All of this is a bunch of over dramatic spinning of the past. If our recruiting was heading in such an irreversible long decline before Mac happened, then how come Muschamp pulled in a top 10 class fresh off a 4-8 season? Because he's a good recruiter. The only reason the next class was rated where it was before Mac got here was because no recruit is committing to any school while there's just an interim head coach in place.
I really need to see your work on how we are lucky to be in the top 20 recruiting with Mac, when no other coach before him has been that low. This is insanity.
Look I'm just worried to see what this team looks like 2 years from now if this level of recruiting keeps up, when the majority of the depth chart are 3 stars that we are hoping are all diamond in the rough talents. We need elite players. Bottom line. No excuses.

I didnt declare Blades would sign with us...just that we dont know what 17-18 yr olds will do.
Heres a point to consider: we are having visitors this weekend...most who are four stars and at least 1 or two 5 stars....including a DL from Texas and we also have as dmb pointed out, two committs from OU. This is our biggest recruiting weekend and its the final weekend of the year before NSD.
We ranked really low because of our committ numbers, UT, Ole Miss and others have a lot more numbers and we are gonna pass them once we get 10 more committs...a lot of other teams are full or about full.
We add 10 more...with 7 or 8 them 4 stars we will jump in the rankings....but its become silly that fans get so worked up with recruiting RANKINGS...as if its a championship game. Our coaches have eye for talent
and that cant be denied...we will be fine when NSD ends.
They will secure us a corp of very good DTs and DBs when all is said and done.
Im more worried about what happens when players are on campus and how they develop. Lets hope Franks will have filled out his frame and that Trask has also developed, if so 2017 will be a very good year.
I do think Toney has the skillset to come in and run the wildcat some and also play WR...his video highlights are sick..dude can really make people miss...and he can throw. I can see him fake a handoff and go the opposite way and really fool folks. Give him a crease and they will be looking at the numbers on the back of his jersey.
Its going to be a long spring-summer and cant wait til Sept. to roll around...sigh.
