One thing will be certain. Spurrier will put whatever QB on the field who he feels will give the team the best shot at winning the game.
We are stacked at QB next year, compared to what other teams will have.
We'll have a RS Sr, Dylan Thompson, already has multiple W's and against ranked teams on the road.
For his collegiate career, Thompson is:
120-218 55% for 1827 yds, 14 TD's, 5 INT's, 16 Sacks, 76 Rushing yards, 5 Rushing TD's
Dylan - Stats
Dylan 2012 Highlights
Next Up, we'll have RS Soph Brendan Nosovitch. A Parade All American, PA Gatorade POY, Maxwell Award Winner out of HS, who broke a bunch of Terrell Pryor's PA HS records. A true Dual Threat QB who's bigger than Shaw, and almost as fast. He ran the zone read in HS too.
Some of his HS Stats
3rd All Time in Career Passing Yards, 1st for Class AAA
1st All Time in Total Yards (when he graduated)
4th and 20th All Time in Season Total Passing Yards
6th, 22nd, 23rd for Most Passing Yards in a Game
3rd All Time for Career Passing TD's, 1st for AAA or greater.
2nd All Time for Career Rushing Yards by a QB, 1st for AAA or greater.
His collegiate stats are very limited:
2-2 100%, 13 yds, 0 TD's, 0 INT's 0 Sacks, 3 Carries, 12 Rushing yards, 1 Rushing TD.
Brendan Nosovitch 23 Minute Highlight reel of 4 HS seasons
Wow. His ability to hit receivers on the run, even while he's running is really impressive. He does a great job of checking down his reads and making a decision quickly.
just for fun...
Nosovitch destroys Arky defenders
Finally, the QB Spurrier said he would stick around extra years for, RS FR Connor Mitch. Holy crap, you wanna talk about records? Click this NCHSAA Official Record Book link. Then search/find for the name "Connor Mitch." You probably will be impressed to see that his name matches 25 entries in the search/find.
Mitch is:
2nd All Time in Career Passing Yardage
1st, 2nd and 3rd for Most Passing Yards in a Game (all over 600 yds) another at 464 yds.
2nd All Time in Passing Attempts
4th All Time in Passing Attempts in a Season
1st in Passing Attempts in a Game (66)
2nd All Time in Career Completions
3rd All Time in Season Completions
3 Games with over 30 Completions
2nd All Time in Career Passing TD's
3rd All Time in Season Passing TD's
1st All TIme for Passing TD's in a Game (9) 3 other games w/ 7 TD's.
2nd All Time for Most Passing Yards in a Season. 4,661
(Yes, you can search for Todd Ellis to see his records as well.)
Connor Mitch Soph Highlights
Connor Mitch Jr Highlights
Connor Mitch, 7 TD, 600 yd game

He had a D1 arm his Jr year in HS. He throws a really nice ball and also does a good job of hitting receivers in stride. He has Pro QB size already too. If our OL can give a QB like that time, we'll slaughter secondaries.
So there you have it, it's going to be a battle. We have 3 legit options for QB. IMO, Dylan will be the favorite to start the season, and very well may finish it, but he has competition behind him and he's going to have to work very hard to keep that job. I wouldn't be shocked to see one of the other QB's get some early playing time when the season starts.

Great post.
I think Noso could jump up and take it.

It's a nice problem to have at QB, a rich man's dilemma so to speak.
We're absolutely stacked, talent-wise, on offense for next season ... but chemistry is going to be the big question mark.
Been saying it for awhile now - 2014 is going to be our season.

Think Nosovitch or Mitch get the job done. Thompson is just a backup imo. A very good one that can fill in for a game or two and perform well, but not one you want to have starting the entire season.
Could be wrong though. We'll see
For clarification I'm #TeamNoso

My money is on Nosovitch to be the starter come season opening.

I agree with this assessment.
I'm wanting Noso to win the starting job as well.

I'm kinda thinking Mitch is the guy. We've seen RS freshmen have great success at QB the last several years. Mitch is ultra-talented, and can sling the ball all over the place. No, it's not the zone-read, but we've seen Spurrier adapt the offense to fit the skills he's had.

Imo Dylan starts, he's a senior and Spurrier will give him every opportunity to showcase his talents.

Great post, very informative.
I have a somewhat related question for the more knowledgeable fans here:
Pharoh Cooper impressed me with his versatility this year, what can we expect out of him next year and will we see him throwing the ball much?
I feel like the answer will be no, outside of once or twice, because of our depth at QB...I'm just curious about this kid's future.

I'd like to see us run the wildcat with him every game with more passes involved.
