What is the politically correct way to abbreviate South Carolina?

Do not want to piss any of yall off (at least until game week).

Honestly I am not sure which is the preferred acronym. TIA

One of those you shouldn't even have to ask if it offends us.

I don't mind USC, USCe, or SCAR

I honestly just listed all the ones ive seen haha. I am assuming USCjr is the most offensive and to avoid that one at all costs?

I always use SCar or SC. SCar avoids all confusion and SC works on the SECr. I avoid USC all together because of the annoying acronym battle. Why the two USCs have such an issue with it but none of the abundant UMs and OSUs don't has always escaped me. USCjr is the only one that is deliberately condescending.

Yea. I also hate SCAR with a passion, but some posters don't care it.

Personally, I think USC should be the only acronym used, maybe USCe and USCw if both are needed.

Although SoCal should just be SC because they have that trademarked (and care enough about it to bring a fricking lawsuit against our baseball hats) and the schools have an agreement to share USC.

But those elitist bastards feel entitled to both USC and SC and ESPN follows suit by giving us the incredibly fricking stupid, bastard acronym SCAR.

I like USC and think it's fine to use in SEC talk. I get why it's confusing when I use it when I'm in DC, NYC or out west.

USCe is perfectly fine, too, though I know some mean it as a slight. In the same way, I always differentiate UT as UTx or UTk. I like the added precision.

SCAR is fine but I think a portion of our fanbase resents it.

USCjr is an insult, no two ways a/b it.

I don't refer to us as the Cocks. I'll say "Go Cocks" to other fans, but I don't use it as my go-to appellation.

USC, SC, Gamecocks, Cocks all these are fine.

There is no reason on the earth, other just being dumb or an arse, to put USCe or USCjr if the context of what you're writing already lets the reader know you're talking about South Carolina.

SCAR is a new thing, I don't really care for it, but it doesn't bother me. I just never think of SC as SCAR.

Personally, I use SC all the time, b/c we run this state.

I always use USC and none of the others. No one owns letters of the alphabet, and I could care less about anything Southern Cal, so I rarely if ever involve myself in topics regarding SoCal, and if others who read my posts can't figure out the context of how I use USC, then that's their problem not mine, and I get through life just fine with them having their problems....

I don't mind USCe. In South Carolina, USC *always* refers to the University, so I've used it exclusively since I was in school. It's S.C. Press style to abbreviate the school this way, and I just never got out of it after I left The Daily Gamecock.

SC, to me, refers specifically to the state, so I tend not to use it.

Also, I never call us "South Carolina." I don't own anything that uses both words; it's just Carolina to me, and damn near all of us. It bothers me that it says "South Carolina Fan" under my name to the left. I'm a Carolina fan, dammit.

I don't particularly care for Scar, and there was some talk that Hyman was going to push for it's more extensive use. But I don't think Spurrier likes it much, so the fanbase by and large doesn't use it.

As you can tell, there's not a whole helluva lot of agreement among the fans about this. Some like USCe, others are offended. Some like SC, some like SCAR, some hate both.

But everyone agrees USCjr is just being an a-hole.

I only use SCAR.

SCAR ... a battle rifle built in Columbia, SC affectionately known as the South Carolina Assault Rifle, known in the military as the South Carolina Assault Rifle, although the acronym actually stands for Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle (SCAR).

FN's SCAR ...

SCAR ... noun
1.
a mark left on the skin or within body tissue where a wound, burn, or sore has not healed completely and fibrous connective tissue has developed.

SCAR ... South CARolina Gamecocks.

SCAR is to the Gamecocks as Spur is to Spurrier, as Spur is to what a Gamecock wears in a fight.

I embraced it long ago - I wish we would all own it and let our success on the football field overtake the other petty crap other fans throw at us about USC or Carolina.

We own the tarholios. And SoCal wants no piece of us otherwise they would agree to the home and home.

We should own SCAR. It's what ESPN uses, it's what CBS uses, frick-it, let's own it.

Now, with regard to the Disney animated character ... I dunno.

See, I understand this rationale, and I'm slowly warming up to it.

I just don't like that we've let outsiders such as CBS and ESPN dictate what they call us (or ourselves), is all.

When we first joined the SEC, I used to be concerned about differentiating between USCe and USCw. I have learned that there is only one SC or USC as far as I'm concerned and typically use just those(just haven't had reason to ever even talk about SoCal since we joined). More SC than USC but that's because I'm lazy and it's one less letter to type. Being on an "SEC" board, I don't know why anything else is needed. By default, any reference to SC or USC should be obvious. Now for branding purposes to the nation...different story for y'all I would guess.

This. Whoever at ESPN decided that SCAR needed to go up on the scoreboard because retards couldn't tell the difference between South Carolina and SoCal can suck a fat dick and diaf imo.

My wife and kids and grandkids claim I pronounce it sorta that way. It's old country boy I suppose.

South Cackalacky ... I used to hear that from Clemson fans all the time as a kid. Most farm boys were taterheads back then during the Frank Howard and Red Parker days ... still are for the most part. But my brothers were all Gamecock fans so they made me one early and I was the biggest.

The whole USC controversy really didn't kick-in until the early 79s and it didn't even become a big deal with the media until we beat them in the 80s.

The litigation started with us claiming the USC.edu domain in 92 and then owning the USCSports.com domain in 94. That pissed them off on the left coast and they filed all the suits including the interlocking SC logo mainly as revenge on our AD Mike McGee, who had been their AD before leaving to take our job ... and as Mike always told me they feared us growing into a power and wanted to try to make a point in court that they held the rights to the USC & SC brand ... I'm referring to SoCal of course.

Mike always said to take it as a compliment.
