Looks like we have our special teams coordinator.
quote:
According to sources, South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp has made another addition to his staff in Boston College special teams coordinator Coleman Hutzler. It is believed Hutzler will also handle special teams and coach inside linebackers in Columbia. Hutzler was with Muschamp at Florida previously before accepting the job at Boston College before the 2015 season

This means No Shane Beamer. The guy had some really good Spec Team Players who won some conference and national awards. He's not an elite recruiter, or even an average SEC level recruiter.
He is from Vegas, so maybe he has some ties to mafia bagmen money that can help.
He does have a lot of high level players though, so he might be the strong X&O guy on the defense. He had an 1st Team All SEC LB in Fowler in '14, and then he had a 1st Team All SEC LB in Steven Daniels this year.
WOW... I just looked at his Spec Team Unit Rankings for various categories. Boston College was fricking really good this year under this guy's leadership.
check them out. Punt/Kickoffs etc...

Beamer may have been a good recruiter for us, but we were not good on special teams at all under him. JoeRob was a far superior coach.

I couldn't call him far superior at all. The previous 2 years our Spec Team stats sucked, really sucked bad, and a lot of people were calling for him to be fired. This was his best year ever as the Spec Team Coach, but his other 3 years weren't any better than Beamers. I'd like to see a stat comparison on that if anyone has time.

I bet Beamer heads UGA to work for Smart.

Possibly, but I don't know. He wasn't retained by Va Tech, I just checked our their board and yesterday Fuente let the guys on staff know who was being retained and who wasn't, Shane wasn't one of them. Keep an eye on Ga Southern and Duke for his services.

Big Ced Williams is coming back on staff! Y'all remember him from the Holtz years, he was an All SEC OL in 2000 and a pre season All SEC/All American in '01, until his injury mid season. He and Wharton played together. Ced was a grad assistant with us until '06 and then he started coaching various places. He spent 3 seasons in the NFL as QC type of role. He's now the OL Coach at Newberry.
**ETA** Confirmed now, Ced Williams is going to be on the S&C staff with Jeff Dillman. I like a former Gamecock All SEC player being in that weight room everyday pushing the guys.
Interesting that he'd rather be a Asst S&C Coach in a SEC program than a AHC at Newberry College. I wonder if the pay is that much more?
Also, I read the Travelle Wharton will be retained as a QC for the OL

Cedrick Williams was always a beast in the weight room and a heckuva personable guy. He'll be an asset to the program. Everyone respects him ... that's key. That's what Fitz had that Joe Con never earned.

That's what I'm wondering right now. In the weight room, is it better to be feared or respected?

By the past 4 years, it's apparent that his Spec Teams are solid. In 2015 his squad was ELITE in most Spec Teams phases, really it was an overall elite Spec Teams unit. 2014 was his worst year, and even then their stats were better than SC's. He got the job at uf in '14 b/c his stats at New Mexcio for '13 and '12 were Top 25-worthy levels.
You couple his Top25 level Spec Team history with coaching 2 LB's who made All Conference the past 2 years and 2 Kickers/Punters the past 4 years who made All Conference and 1 made All American... and I think we found a good Coach here. He knows how to coach if he's getting results like that over 4 years.

Lattimore will be part of the staff in an advisory role to players.

I was told his official title will be, and I think I got this right, "Life Coach."
Doesn't take effect until he graduates in May. He's going to do it part time ... while he begins work on his Masters.

Update OP with Marcus Lattimore - Director of Character Development.
He will work with the players on the team in that regard and will also be involved in the recruiting side of things, especially when prospects take unofficial and official visits to South Carolina.
