Where do i start with the offense, Rico is still scared of contact. Bench him and just feed Feaster. Play calling was full of pussyfooting, the fact we didnt take advantage in the first half of their weak defensive backfield was mind boggling. Jake IS NOT a good QB, OL is trash...moving Stanley to Guard from center was terrible. Manos isnt ready he is still too small, he lived in the backfield today, also had more than a few bad snaps. Back to Jake, he just isn the guy, he cant hit an open receiver, he is always high, need to bench him for Ryan to get the PT, and seprate him and Doty; if Doty even wants to come here after that shite show today. We have to get Dak and Ulrich in the game somehow with WR screens.

Defensively, can we please learn to tackle, im not asking for much. The fact they ran all over us was due to the fact our front 7 were terrible at tackling, the same shite as last year. If Boom and Co. are as good as they say they are on the defensive front, then tell me what the frick is going on. Jam isnt a safety, he is a slot reciever, period. I know we were missing Ibe, AJ and Enagbare today on the defense but that is no excuse for the shite show they put out there.

All in all, Boom and Co. shat the bed and the defense was decent for the time they were on the field outside of rush defense. Jake has to get benched IMHO, offensively we were just garbage and a bunch of pussies playing field position. Playing not to lose instead of keeping the foot on the gas and play to win....the punts on 4th an short were complete pussy arse playcalls. We couldnt stop the run or the offense at all, but yea sure lets give them the ball back. Just a complete worthless showing across the board, in a game we had to win for this season and the future.

If one butt is in the seats next week, it's one too many. This football team and administration don't deserve our money, time and emotional investment. 34 years as a Gamecock fan and all they ever gave me was high blood pressure, a fondness for brown liquor and a coke problem.

I think you answered your own question here mate

Jake is in a boot. Word is it is a significant injury though nobody seems to know what or when it happened. Ryan is taking first team reps.

Right.

Assuming that is true (the boot thing), I'd imagine Bentley is going to "medshirt" and transfer portal somewhere else next season (assuming Hilinski does well).

If Hilinski flops, then I imagine he magically gets better. Or maybe they try Joyner.

I'm not happy with any of this. Bentley is what he is. Maybe Muschamp ruined him. Maybe Muschamp meddles in the offense (he honestly doesn't seem animated enough anymore to be doing that, but you never know).

But while Bentley doesn't seem terribly mature, he hasn't deserved the savaging he's gotten.

Maybe I'm guilty of that too. But I'm not so sure at this point I'm too fond of some of our other players either, based upon their social media activity.

That whole McElwain thing could have blown up in Muschamp's face, though it didn't.

Will say this is either cowardice or genius (maybe both). But if we had some kind of clown player revolt or Missouri BS, I hope the new President would show some spine and tell them where the door is. And if Muschamp (or Tanner) wanted to "Pinkel" I hope that would actually be grounds for firing.

No matter how many it is, who they are, or what happens to the football team. Tired of this tail wagging the dog.

I agree with you Sunbeam. That's when I heard the worrisome news yesterday my first thought went back to the revolt under Sparky Woods that benches a legacy QB in Wright Mitchell and jump started the career of Taneyhill.

It's almost identical. The feigned injury, the announcement of Taneyhill getting the start. The rest is history.

But think about how Bentley earned his first start and McElwain immediately transferring.

These things happen in college football but I'll say it over and over again, Bentley is the scape goat here. He is not a big time game winning QB but there are 100 other things that went wrong that were not his fault.

Horn putting all the blame on Bentley when Horn let a sure gifted interception slip right through his hands is disingenuous and hypocritical at the very least and what some over there, on that team, are forgetting is that Jake has his posse too .... teammates that are very loyal to him.

How the coaches handle this .... I dunno. Not sure if they are even capable. I get Edwards being miffed too but he dropped two passes he really should have caught.

Rico is not a big time back. He missed some blocks (which is why the coaches are now saying he started and why Mon didn't play) and he (Rico) did not run with authority IMHO.

I think we view this similarly.

My guess is that you could easily get a racial angle on this whole thing. And I'd imagine the whole coaching staff would immediately get one of Fred Sanford's heart attacks (only they wouldn't be joking).

Geez. I know what I am saying, and why I am saying it.

If Hilinski was my kid, I'd tell him to bail out. Maybe all this goes away, or maybe it turns into something nasty.

But I'd want my kid to get an education, enjoy life for four years, and maybe become a pro if that is what he wanted and the opportunity was there.

He can get 1), but 2) could be dicey, and 3) - who knows at this point?

Hilinski can fit into lots of offenses, pro set, Air Raid, different Spreads... I'd tell him to go to Virginia or something, where there is no chance of Emo or coaching insanity/turnover.

This may be my alma mater, but some things aren't worth it. And that kid has options that others would be happy to give him.

The issue with team tackling on defense has been at USC since 2016. I think this coaching staff just is unable to teach proper fundamentals in form tackling.

Muschamp keeps harping on it, and gripes about it in post-game pressers, but to me it's like Holbrook was with team bunting. The team under Holbrook could never properly bunt in games, and towards the end of Holbrook's tenure at USC someone asked him how it could be improved, and Holbrook just shrugged his shoulders and said something like they were world champions at bunting during practices.

That told me that, perhaps how the staff teaches and prepares the team in bunting during practices was most likely the problem. So going on 4 years now Muschamp keeps griping on form tackling by the defense, but they never learn to tackle. That's got to be on the staff and their ability (or lack thereof) at getting their players to learn how to tackle.

Maybe this staff needs to wait until they have 6-7 5-star players on defense before their defenses start tackling, like they had at Auburn or Texas or Florida. That doesn't work here at South Carolina - here you actually have to do some teaching....

First, do y'all recall the presser done during fall camp where Bentley joked around about going over to Jaycee after he made a great play to tell him "good play" and he said Jaycee told him to get the hell away from him and Jake laughed and joked it off as him being the "enemy" during practice bc of his role as the QB? I'm wondering now, in retrospect, if Jaycee didn't actually mean it.

Second, I worry that this whole deal with a certain few players trashing Jake (or supporting it if they weren't the actual person who did it) isn't some backlash bc of Dakereon getting passed over. I'll just say it. Black vs white thing.

Hope to God both of those observations are way the hell off base and I'm certainly not saying there is any validity to either at all but those are two thoughts that immediately came to mind in light of what's gone on since the game.

I'm glad you put that out there. Joyner got passed over because Hilinski is the better passer and better QB. Being pissed because of a skin color is immature and is racist in its self.

Conway HS had a situation in 1989 when 31 of 37 black players boycotted the team for the season when the white AD's kid was the starting QB instead of the black kid. It was an absolute nightmare for the football team and the entire community. I hope it isn't a race thing. In this day and age, that will devolve into something very nasty very quickly.

Damn .... I remember that. I had this friend name Derwood, used to work for PYA and his people serviced my restaurants. Nice guy, huge Conway fan and I remember him telling me about that when he came to visit after we were recovering from Hugo and I was down there with one of the lowcountry stores. He was some kinda pissed. Conway was big time back then.

If that happens here, I am going to hang up my fan card.

The Gamecocks are the last thing that really ties me to watching sports of any sort. I still like to watch college football for what seems to be a good matchup. I try to watch Washington State (because Leach). But that's it. And if not for the Gamecocks I'd watch as much college ball as I do NFL - which is like 5 minutes here or there, every other week.

Look this site doesn't have any shortage of curmudgeons (of any age). No one wants another get off my lawn rant.

But I do not like what college football has turned into. The stupid amounts of money they spend on it, the recruiting, ...

People like Urban Meyer, Art Briles, ...

Want to know something? I don't idolize people like Nick Saban. I actually have contempt for him. Muschamp seems more likeable (wonder about his balls though) but a grown man having to slob the knobs of 18 year old people I would actively try and avoid in normal life...

I ask myself, do I even like the people engaged in this sport? My own team even? And if I don't, why am I watching this crap.

One Brice Thompson cover-up, one emo drama playing out, and I'm done. Walking away forever.

And that ought to matter to the powers that be. Because in my family the ONLY people who really follow football are OLD. The younger ones I'm not sure my nephews have actually watched more than a few minutes of any football game in over a decade.

I know my oldest nephew will watch a cooking show or a hunting show - while some big game he never heard about is playing is on another channel. Christ he wouldn't know the slightest thing about it. He might have a vague idea Oklahoma is supposed to be a famous school, but he'd be drawing a blank on the University of Kansas or Oklahoma State.

Sunbeam .... it's a common theme these days. I keep hearing, almost exactly what you just typed, more and more these days. At least when it comes to college football.

Recruiting and TV has just about ruined it for some.

I think that's why a lot of Baby Boomers like myself, those of us born between 1946-1964, have gravitated more towards the purer sports as we age. Baseball and Women's basketball.

What bothered me almost as much as the loss, and the obvious failure to plan and execute and the lack of effort, was the aftermath.

By Sunday there were so many rumblings of pointing fingers and laying blame and screaming and hollering at one another and then the talk started about the cliques that had formed ... that seriously bothers me.

I remember well the threat of a boycott under Sparky Woods back in the early 90s. It was a serious threat, the team gathered and voted on it and Taneyhill came in and saved the day. We started 0-5 and it was bad. After we were butt raped by Bama the players had enough and were ready to walk. 92 I think it was, our first year in the league. Then Taneyhill starts against a #16 ranked MSU upsets them. We reeled off 4 of the next 5 and really should have beaten Florida at their place but for a dropped pass late in the game. (Boomer Foster dropped a halfback pass from Brandon Bennett I think it was). We upset Tennessee at our place when Hank (walk on LB) stopped a two point conversion attempt. That game got Johnny Majors fired. Our schedule was so much easier that year.

Taneyhill saved the season and reinvigorated the program. Fans were reenergized.

Let's hope that happens this season starting now. We'll find out what our staff and players are made of beginning now. I don't have much faith because the players are different these days. But I do believe we have a better staff now than we did then under Sparky.

I was guessing somewhere in the greater Chucktown area.

I have to admit I chuckled at the video.

My bigger question in all of this, assuming we don't deep 6 the entire staff, is do we keep his Dad after Bentley graduates?
