Interesting article that mentions us and Fleck. Good read if nothing else.

Let's not forget what happened the last time an SEC team hired a Big10 coach...

Saban coached at Michigan State before going to LSU.

I am confused. Is this writer actually saying we are being mentioned as a potential destination, or did this person just pick two schools who might be looking for a coach? I think the jury is still out on Fleck, but I love the energy he brings.

Ehh that was a huge scheme/style that just wasn’t going to work with his recruits at Arkansas. Plus Wisconsin was already rolling when he got there. Fleck has turned two turds to gold.

I said it on 247, but if we lose to Vandy tomorrow and look like a continuation of the 2nd half of the Tenner game, Muschamp’s office should be cleaned out. I don’t think we will, but it’s also hard to know the mindset of the players. They love Muschamp, but they also can’t believe the shite coming out of their own mouths that they’re prepared and it’s solely just not them executing.

That I don’t know and only the writer would. Just think it’s interesting we were mentioned in this article. I haven’t heard much national talk about firing Muschamp so who knows.

Agreed
Yea they’ve won games and are 8-0
But let’s see what happens to teams with a pulse

He’s got a tough 4 games coming up.(okay maybe not NW)

Some wins he barely beat Ga Southern, Fresno, South Dakota and Purdue

Fleck is high energy, but he sort of reminds me of Butch Jones with all of his sayings, etc. He’s having a great year, but I’d like to see a little more. Big 10 is a lot diff than the SEC.

With that being said, he couldn’t be worse than what we have currently.

I think what really did Bert in, other than he got real lazy, is that he never really adapted to Southern football. Most of the coaches he hired were Midwestern guys with ties to Midwestern states. He went out of his way to antagonize Southern high school coaches and that doomed him more than the system did.

Fleck has had great success at two programs that haven't had much success recently. I think he's proved that he's a very good, if not elite, coach. The big concern I would have is that he is very much a Midwest guy. He's from the Midwest. He has spent his entire coaching career in the Midwest other than a brief stint with Tampa Bay Bucs.

A guy I would keep my eye on (though he needs a bit more seasoning) is Eliah Drinkwitz at App. State. He has a lot of experience in the South and so far he's done a very good job with the Mountaineers. I don't think he's quite ready for the big time head coaching gig but if he keeps it up he could be a very solid hire.

I liked Fleck before the Gophers hired him but look at the Gophers schedule this year and at least 12 SEC schools would be undefeated playing the Gophers 2019 schedule.

He's one, and honestly, Elliott at GA State will get a look by someone. May as well be us in 2021.

I think in order to win and win big, we have to have an innovative offensive mind, or a program builder. I still like Mike Houston at ecu who has proven he can build a program and eek the most out of it, and another name that could be interesting would be Graham Harrell, the Mike leach QB

I think he's a good coach but not sure how good of a fit he would be here or most SEC schools.

He seemed to inspire his players when he was still in the MAC. At that level you are not getting the 5 stars so you have to find another edge and he seems gifted in the art of motivation.

My question is as you move up the coaching pyramid and must compete in a 5 star world, can that translate to similar wins at the top alone? Coaches of my era were all about just coaching. Now you have to wear so any hats.

In game coach
Pre game coach
Recruiter
Media savy
Motivational speaker
Donor friendly
NCAA friendly

Bowden succeeded playing a few tough games a year and lots of fluff at Free Shoes U. Not knocking his wins, just saying in the SEC he has at least an extra loss or two each season and that is enough to knock him out of a MNC.

B1G is a step up from the MAC but it is no SEC.

I think Fleck can do all of this

But he won’t do it here

i think it’s a mix between we won’t hire him and he won’t wanna coach here

He signed an extension thru 2026 last week with MN and has a 10 mil buyout. If we fire Muschamp and hire Fleck, we’d be looking at $30 mil just in buyouts. That ship sailed...

Pretty crazy isn’t it?
Guys having a much better start to his career and his buyout isn’t close to Booms
