Safety Zay Brown of Clarke Central (Athens, GA), who all but tweeted his commitment to USC back in June, has now made it official after attending the Gamecock cookout this weekend...

updated the visitor list for the Cookout yesterday. 4* Safety Hamsah Nasirildeen came by on his way back from a florida camp the day before.

Just a pure wild guess right now, but shortly before Muschamp's tweet, DB prospect Trajan Bandy tweeted a pic of him putting on a Gamecock baseball cap and said "DBU". Hopefully it was him, but we're in excellent position with a lot of our top targets.....

DBU ???? ... #SpursUp

Might be 4* CB Bandy. The timing would add up. If we just stole him from OU and Miami, that's a pretty big move. Miami was convinced they flipped him from OU.

247 reporting that it's 3* OLB Sherrod Greene.

I really like this guy, he's just a great overall athlete.

https://247sports.com/Player/Sherrod-Greene-85034

Bama offered this summer and unc is still all over him. We're going to have to fight to keep him. He's just a 3 in the ratings but he is comparable to a bunch of other 4*'s this cycle.

*interesting note. Sherrod Greene was on the same The Opening team and Jamyest Williams and Ortre Smith. I am only speculating, but I think Jamyest has silently committed and is working behind the scenes here for us. 4* WR OrTre Smith was also on that team.

Yep, it's Greene. A great pick-up for the staff! We're getting stronger...

I read a lot more speculation this morning.

OrTre's mom ended up feeling that OrTre was 'shown more love' at SC this weekend. Muschamp ran to be the first one to greet OrTre when he arrived on campus. At clemson's cookout he didn't receive as much attention from dabo. She also supposedly said that dabo has increased weekly contact with OrTre after he found out how much Muschamp was talking to him.

4* TE Logan Rudolph is a clemson commit and wears really odd shorts...but his parents are allegedly a little pissed about some type of communication b/w Dabo and Logan about playing time/early playing time. I think they just figured out that Garret Williams was a much higher rated TE and will be a Jr when Logan arrives. Williams is the #2 TE right now, but playing behind a Sr, so he might need 2 good college years as a starter before he has a chance to go Pro (unless he has an amazing Jr year.)

Like the experts who put in CB's, I expect 3* SDE Matthew Butler to commit to SC, and it could be anytime. I also expect 4* SDE MJ Webb to commit after or during an OV this fall. Both those guys are really great athletes for their size. Butler legitimately runs in the 40 in the 4.7's at 260's lbs. Butler also has the grades to go where ever he wants, good student. He has offers from historic football powerhouses like Miami, tenn, psu and va tech, but also has offers from Duke, Cal, Vandy, Navy, etc....

There's a lot of speculation about 4* CB Jamyest Williams being a silent commit to SC. The clemson fan sites are reporting the same thing. He left their cookout early on Friday to come to Columbia. He spent all day Saturday and most of Sunday down here as well.

4* CB Trajan Bandy came to the cookout, and then blew up social media with #spursup #DBU tags that got a lot of people thinking he's coming our way. He said today that we're in his Top3 with miami and penn st. He was a former oklahoma commit. He plays at Columbus HS in MIami, it's 8A football (highest FL classification.)
Here are his highlights
https://www.hudl.com/video/3/3946990/5721bd979a91677e7489bd07
Absolutely a 4*, he plays with a lot of attitude/swagger and makes plays all over. Many INT's and PBU's. When he tackles he hits the hips and wraps up. Good fundamentals. Good first step and acceleration. Good instincts. Solid footwork in coverage, but that's the area he needs to work on most. Took his eyes off the QB some, but also did a good job or reading the QB when he was looking at him. He's been coached/mentored well. He needs to work on his top end speed though and footwork in coverage. He is a very aggressive player and that's something we've missed in our secondary for 2 years.

Jamyest Williams said today

quote:

"The South Carolina cookout wasn't all about football," Williams said. "It was just about doing different activities and having a great time. It was really a bonding day and a time to hang out with the other commitments and recruits.”

I put a really important part in bold.

Ayyyyyy nice.

CIYE, know anything about S/CB Naytron Culpepper from Miami? Think he's buddies with Bandy, but he only has 1 CB on 247 for Sparty of all places. His 247 ranking is much much higher than his composite. Any word on this guy? Has 28 offers (strong list too) but I haven't heard a word about this dude.

IDK a lot about him other that we offered in Feb and he picked up a lot of offers after that.

He named us in his Top7 in July. I don't think he tested as high as he would like on his SPARQ score, he has good film but tested like a 3* Safety. However, if Mark D'Antonio really wants this guy, he's probably legit. DiAntonio is a master of evaluating 3* talent that can develop into all conference players.

There is something good going on in South Florida, and TRob, Jamyest, Bandy and Jackson are stimulating it.

Our 3* DB Tavyn Jackson is a social media guy and he helps our coaches/fans know what's going on with other recruits and positively reps SC. TM at 247 is really big on this guy, said he's our most underrated player, should be a 4*. (I still think that our most underrated is 3* DE Tyreek Johnson, he's a Norwood like guy that has no quit in him.)

4* CB Bandy and 4* CB Williams keep retweeting each other and following other South FL DB's. Bandy has been targeting 4* St Thomas Aquinas CB Asante Samuel Jr (yes, the son of the Asante you're thinking about.) His dad played with Coach Peterson at ATL. Well then 3* South FL APB Shaun Shivers, and 4*/3* S Naytron Culpeppar get involved and now all those guys are coming to SC tomorrow for a visit. Our RB 4*/3* KyShaun Bryan, and Chris Lammons and BAW and other guys all start social media hyping these guys and it looks good for us in their recruitment. Asante has offers from everyone, and he has that NFL pedigree. Getting a good St Thomas Aquinas pipeline is key, they are like IMG in that they always have a load of elite talent on the roster.

We picked up 247 CB's today for Williams, Bandy and then a bunch for a 3* WDE Christopher Whittaker.
https://247sports.com/Player/Christopher-Whittaker-83430

he got some interesting offers this spring and summer. 4 of his last 6 offers were SC, Notre Dame, uga and ga tech. He a low to mid 3* rating though.

I looked at his highlights
https://www.hudl.com/video/3/2952778/5721e701bd746d007c86d98e
Maybe he does really well in camps. he stands up a lot or plays high on the DL, doesn't keep his pads low. He's decently fast and with a decent 1st step, but not more explosive than Tyreek or some of the other DL we are recruiting. He plays his assignments well though and he chased the ball. He made a lot of plays on the highlight reel, but many of them were due to blown blocking assignments where he went untouched into the backfield, or he was going against some undersized OL. From what I saw, a 3* rating seems fair.

If that's the worst thing, not bad. That can be coached. He probably projects to keep his speed after gaining weight. He's already 6'4" 250, I imagine the coaching staff will coach him up well if he comes this way.

This guy's twitter feed reads like he's committed already haha. Retweets everything gamecock. I would expect a commitment sometime in the season if we can stay on him.

4* CB AJ Terrell visited SC yesterday. SC helped their chances a lot and impressed him. 247 was told that it may be a SC-clemson battle for Terrell and he'll wait until later or after the season to make a commitment. We are looking good to get a OV.

4* OL TJ Moore said last week that he was going to announce today.

He visited SC's Cookout and went up to tennessee for a visit there yesterday. Had he not made that trip, I would've felt a lot better about our chances.

There are some key differences in his recruitment and future development though. Elliott likes him as a Tackle, which is a higher $ position in the NFL. Tenn likes him as a Guard, which is also the position he plays in HS.

Elliott has put 5 drafted OL in the NFL since 2010, tenn's Don Mahoney has put 4 in and he hasn't had an OL drafted in 2 years.

I would really think we should be leading, and we are leading in the CB's up to this point, although, the last 2 CB's came and picked tenn. Strange things happen on a recruits final visit somewhere, and $Knoxville$ might have made him an offer that's too good to turn down.
