Former Gator DB is recruiting 4* CB Jamyst Williams for SC.

quote:

With any recommendation, you have to trust the source. When a fellow player sang the praises of South Carolina co-defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson to 2017 cornerback Jamyest Williams, the four-star Georgia product listened.

It helps when the advocate is Jalen Tabor, a former five-star prospect Robinson recruited who blossomed into an All-American at Florida.

Williams talked to Tabor on a flight returning from Portland, Oregon, where Williams participated in The Opening (for the second time). Tabor talked up the relationship he still has with Robinson, Williams’ primary recruiter, more than a year after Robinson and Will Muschamp left Florida

quote:

Williams plans to silently commit soon to his school of choice and will possibly announce publicly during the season, he said.

quote:

“I just know if I decide, I know there’s going to be other guys who decide they want to go there, too,” Williams said. “I know great players want to play with great players. That’s exactly what I want to do. I wouldn’t go there if I didn’t see a great opportunity.”

well, there might actually be something to this whole silent commitment from WIlliams....

Nice I love it. I reckon he'd target anyone our staff was targeting to get in their ear. Also his brother which would be nice.

Kid is a stud, hope he lands here and brings some friends with him.

4* OL TJ Moore is set to announce on August 1st.

SC leads the 247 CB's by a large margin, but tenn is still a contender. He's teammates with SC commit, 3* OL Eric Douglas. Mallard Creek also has 4* WR Ryan Jones (unc) and 4* DT Grant Gibson (nc state). There's an outside chance we could flip Ryan Jones. If he comes to the Cookout this week that will be a great sign.

247's site bumped RB Chase Hayden up to a 4* after a very strong showing at The Opening, he scored a 137 Nike SPARQ score, which put him in the Top10 overall at that camp.

He said he's going to announce next week. He named SC the leader in early June, but then I think he switched it to Arkansas. Ark leads the CB projections, including CB's from SC's insiders.

Former US Army All American, Javon Kinlaw, committed to SC in '16, but had to go to JUCO at Jones CC. He weighed in at 6'7" 295 lbs this summer. So apparently he grew an inch and a half since his last weigh in. He'll play DE for them, but he could play DE or OT at the next level. He EE's at the JUCO last semester, so there is a chance he could enroll at SC in May '17 and that's the plan right now. As long as he makes the grades, he can do that. He made the grades this spring semester to still be on track for that to be a possibility.

I think he'lll be a high 3 or low 4 star when the JUCO ratings are made.

I think with the addition of Ty'son that we are full at rb.

We might be looking that way, but it's also situational.

We have Ty'son who is an every down RB build. He's a lot like 3*/4* RB KyShaun Bryan who is committed to us for '17. Both will be eligible to play for us in '17, with TySon having 3 to play 3 and Bryan having 5 to play 4.

If every RB came back in '17, we would have:
Sr David WIlliams
Soph Denson
Soph Turner
Soph Dowdle (b/c I don't think he RS's this year.)
Soph Ty"son WIlliams
RS Fr Freeman
FR KyShaun Bryan
That would be 7 RB's for '17, but I bet 1+ transfers after '16.

We may look for a speed APB this cycle. I was disappointed when we backed off ABP Javon Peake from NC, he's going to be a really good D1 RB/scat back.

However, there are RB's this cycle who we are legit contenders that we'll oversign/won't turn down. I don't know for sure if Chase Hayden is one of them, but he is improving his stock.
If 4* Adarius Lemons or 4* AJ Davis want to come to SC, we'll sign them. Also, but not as likely, if 5* D'Andre Swift or 4* Anthony McFarland wanted to sign, we would do so as well.

Bobby Bentley has us in legit contention with some excellent RB's.

Some SC Targets performed really well at The Opening this month.

https://www.studentsportsevents.com/football/2016/07/10/opening-finals-2016-nike-football-rating-results/

RB Chase Hayden was #6 overall and #4 for RB's with a 137 SPARQ

DE Xavier Thomas was the top peforming DL with a 120, and he was going against SR's. He's a Jr now. He'll make a case for #1 overall player in '18.

WR Or'Tre Smith was 12th for WR's with a 101.

LB Justin Foster was 2nd from last for the LB's...but he has fallen off our radar a good bit this summer.

DB Jamyest WIlliams didn't compete in the SPARQ drills.

Couple of things. Number one, absolutely agree that we will see some transfers and even if not, no way we pass up on the backs you mentioned.

Number 2,and I'm kinda disappointed you didn't mention, even though he didn't compete in Sparq, Jamyest Williams was voted mvp for dbs at the opening. Also smith was voted first team at wr.

I think he is taking a UV today but not going to the cookout tomorrow. Which kinda stinks but that means he turned down going to clemson cookout.

247 reporting that Chase Hayden is not a take for us, b/c Ty'Son Williams and KyShaun Bryan fit his mold and we'll have them in the '17 class. Expect him to sign with Arky

The Gamecock Cookout is this Saturday, it will be at the Strom again.

Here are the list of attendees.

DB
4* CB Jamyest Williams - (We lead, may give silent commit.)
4* S Jonathan Abram (JUCO - will be a 4* with that offer list)
4* CB Trajah Bandy (former OU commit, miami is considered the favorite.)
4* S Hamsah Nasirlideen (stopped by on his way back a florida camp the day before.)
3* S Zay Brown (on commit watch.)
3* CB Tavyn Jackson - Commit
3* CB Damarri Mathis - Commit (ole mi$$ offered though, so we may battle for him.)

DL
5* DE Xavier Thomas (skipping clemson's cookout Friday, will be here Friday, but not at cookout.)
4*/5* DT Josh Belk
4* DT Ricky Sandidge (we are looking really good here, Us or unc in the end.)
4* SDE MJ Webb (we lead, likes fishing.)
4* SDE Stephon Wynn (clemson legacy, but Thompson and Muschamp are relentless.)
4* DE Zach Pickens (NR now, but will be a high 4* when rated for '19's class.)
4*/3* WDE Brad Johnson - (We lead, instate guy)
3* SDE Tyreek Johnson - Commit (will be the biggest steal of this class as far as ranking to college performance.)
3* DT/SDE Devonte Wyatt - Commit (this is the freak athlete who also runs track, he runs a 4.6 at 300 lbs.)
3* WDE Davonne Bowen - Commit
3* SDE Matthew Butler - (one of Lance Thompson's favorite targets.)

LB
4* Dax Hollifield - (would be a big get from NC, elite level decision making/instincts)
3* Sherrod Greene (just a really solid overall athlete, we lead) but Bama just offered.)
3* Cain McWilliams ( this is the guy we saw at the TN satellite camp and offered on the spot.)
3* Eldridge Thompson - Commit (JUCO OLB)

OL
4* OT Kavesz Sherard - (18 class, but we're gaining ground on the taters here, they have help though at TL Hanna.)
4* OT TJ Moore (was having transportation issues, but apparently got that worked out.)
3* OT Summie Carlay - Commit
3* OG Eric Douglas - Commit

QB
4* Dakereon Joyner - (just got a CB to SC, we like him as a QB, others as an ATH.)
3* QB Kaymen Dureton (this is the guy Bama, LSU and SC offered this spring.)

WR
4* OrTre Smith - (still working to convince mama, lol, she likes Muschamp though)
3* Damarcus Gregory - (Byrnes HS, he's our's to lose for '18 class.)
3* Chad Terrell
NR Jacoby Pinckney - (19 class, don't know what his rating will be, offers from SC and Va Tech.)
NR Sam Pinckney - (18 class, don't know what his rating will be, offer from SC, Greenwood guy)
(noticed that all these WR's are big body/possession type of WR's.)

RB
3* Jalen Houston - (will be going to Va Tech)
3* Master Teague - (18 class RB, NR now, probably will end up a 3*.)

TE
4*/3* Will Register - Commit

Excellent. There's not much of value up there in Pickens County, no need for him to travel up that way.

Unless something truly drastic occurs between now and next go around's NSD, Thomas will be a gamecock it seems.

Right now we're in a great position, I think it's apparent we lead, but we're not bullet proof. Showing progress on the defense this season is going to be key.
