Would have still been a Gamecock through and through though.

Exactly.

And LSU offered a cheerleading scholly in addition to academic so I would have accepted both had I gone there.

Carolina didn't offer them at the time but it didn't matter to me in the end...the academic was enough.

Springbok, are you ZA? Or a rugby fan?

Both. More ZA as I was born there. Only follow rugby at World Cup time.

I've got the war stories too ... and to be honest, my military career was the best years of my life in terms of things I saw, great friends I made for life, experience out in the real world and everything else. All the schools, infantry, mortars, jump school, JOTC, Recondo (82nd, not XVIII Corp), Ranger, Airborne Sniper (before they moved everything to Benning), Jumpmaster, Loadmaster (in Aviano, Italy), ... I'm proud of my degrees but far prouder of my DD214.

That's not taking anything away from USC ... those were fun times, but I was such a kid back then. Had to work my arse off to get through it, buffed floors out at Allied Chemical at night for three years ... rode a Honda 350 out there come rain or shine or sleet, worked until after midnight then had to ride back into town and study, try to catch some Zs. I actually had two jobs at one time over the summer, working at Andy's then Groucho's behind the counter ... then I'd leave there and ride out to Allied in Irmo.

Fun times, but it was tough trying to keep-up the grades, attend a ballgame every now and then, party a little bit ... not much.

My military days, those were something I cherish ... my best friends today and guys I served with back then.

Whereas, I rarely see or talk to any of my old college buddies except the two guys that were roommates from HS ... they still come by to see me at the Cockaboose and drink my liquor and talk about catching me banging out this gal or that gal in Douglas our freshman year ... one of our buddies passed out in the Phi Delt house my sophomore year, in the showers, passed out and his butt cheek was over the drain and it flooded he entire building, top and bottom floors. Woke up to water literally everywhere. Ahhhh yes, those were the days.

Good stories from college and the military I guess come to think of it.

Def agree with the funky turns and dirt floor poor. We actually had good flooring in the house, but growing up in NC, we didn't have the money to send me to school out of state. I took the community college route and busted tail to 6 figures in 10 years. I've definitely been blessed with wonderful opportunities, but it's also about what we do with those opportunities when presented with them. Hard work and dedication to providing a better life for my children than I had is my driving force.

With that said, I've grown up as a Gamecock fan from birth. Hoping that my daughters will be fortunate enough to attend USC though, if that's where they choose to go and offers the best education in the field that they wish to study.

I agree, I loved the USMC. Great times, friends and even better booze.
