The spring game replay finally hit Youtube, and I watched it last night.

Pretty impressed with Hilinski. Wanted to see Urich take snaps at QB, but the replay was cut short by the LSU spring game on this Youtube video. Think I saw Urich take a couple snaps, but I gather he mostly played QB at the very end of the game?

Anyway Joyner...

Obviously he's mobile, and can make plays with his legs. Honestly that is huge. None of the rest of our QB's other than Urich can really do that (even if they could contribute more to the running game).

He made some good throws, some of them were accurate as well.

He seemed to be less effective and sloppier throwing the ball as the game went on.

The tools are there, but I don't know. However you want to define what we do on offense, we really haven't been using some parts of the spread offense playbook as other teams have.

Joyner would be at his best in a offense where they turned the qb loose, like Jackson at Louisville. I believe he would put up big numbers in that situation.

But maybe it's because we have been working with the strengths of the qb's we have, but I'm not sure McClendon or Werner really want to implement that kind of thing.

Joyner would tear things up with Mullen at Florida, or even Chad Morris at Arkansas.

Joyner might well turn himself into something that would fit what we do on offense. But really there are offenses where he could start now, and just reach his ceiling as a passer as the years went on, again like Jackson.

Here he has Hilinski as a guy he has to beat out to be the starter. Not sure he is going to be able to do it here unless we change the plays we call, or at least seem like we are comfortable with the qb taking off 15-20 times a game. Not sure I see that in McClendon or Werner.

Although, just to my eye, I think Urich is the most gifted qb we have, physically at least. I really value mobility and running plays at QB. There is more to playing QB than being 6'5" and running like a deer. But he does seem to throw an accurate ball, even if he doesn't have Hilinski's arm strength.

Hilinski does seem like he goes through his progression better than the redshirt sophomore Urich, and the reshirt freshman Joyner.

And he also seems to have good feet, and at least as much mobility as Jake.

We'll see. But while it is a year down the road, I'm kind of thinking Joyner might wind up going Juco for a year after next spring, having a big year there, then going to a major school with the right kind of offense (and no, he doesn't fit a school like Clemson or Georgia either).

Hmmmm Joyner at Texas or Oklahoma. Not like they don't have guys beating down the door to play there, but he would do well with those coaches.

A missed stat of the Spring game. Dak had more total yards than Hilinski. 245 (185 passing/60 rushing) to 211 (206/15).

Not a missed stat when it doesn't tell the whole story. We pass to set up the run, Ryan had a 67%completion rate and Dak had around 47%. Ryan stays in the pocket and gets the ball out fast where as Dak still doesnt have the patience and takes off running.
Watch the game again you will see Ryan is our future.

That's pretty accurate. But the thing is that running to set up the pass works pretty well too.

Better to some people, and I'm one. I guess we could debate this, but the spread is versatile enough to allow you to run it both ways.
