South Carolina has received a commitment from RHP Colie Bowers (Lexington/USC Sumter).
He left there to go to USC Sumter where he became one of the staff's top pitchers. In his one year with the Fire Ants, which went to the JUCO World Series, he threw 92.1 IP, 9-2, 78 hits, 36 walks, 97 Ks and had a 2.14 ERA.
At the JUCO World Series, he was pitching at 88-89 mph. His changeup his his best pitch and curve ball is improving.
He will compete for a role as a starting pitcher when he gets to campus, which will be in August.

Not recruiting news, unless this helps with recruiting, which it could....
Whit Merrifield was called up to the Royals last night during his AAA game.
Christian Walker was called up to the Orioles yesterday and played last night. He had 2 AB's and had 1 H and 1 Walk.

Very nice, I think that's Merrifields first call up to the show.

Proud to say that today I made the commitment to play my college baseball at the University Of South Carolina??
2017 RHP out of Liberty High School (Liberty, SC) has committed to USC. According to TBS's John Whittle, Logan was the staff's top RHP target for the 2017 class. Another solid pick-up!

Exactly, it's a nice gesture, but he's #3 OVERALL for the '17 class. He's getting a mid to high 7 figure signing bonus. He can always take $100K of that and put it into an account for his education later. Wil Crowe is the only guy I can remember that turned down a 7 figure signing bonus to come to SC.

He's good friends with our OL commit, Zac Bailey.

The staff of Collegiate Baseball selects the team from players nominated by their high school coach.
During his senior season with the Green Wave baseball team, Hopkins batted .371 with two home runs and 18 RBIs. He led the Green Wave in runs scored (40), triples (3), walks (22), hits (33), stolen bases (23-25), on base percentage (.517) and slugging percentage (.562).

Also, our Elite 11 QB Commit, Brandon McIwain, was selected as an Under Armor All American (for baseball.) He's actually projected to be an early round selection in the MLB, but he's telling people not to worry about that b/c he wants to play college football.

2018 LHP John Gilreath, Northwestern HS/Rock Hill, SC committed to SC on Saturday. He was hitting 85-87 with his fast ball. Young kid, but he has a ton of potential.

Did anyone watch this all-star prep baseball game yesterday? It was played in San Diego's Petco Park between star players mostly of the 2016 class from the west and east coasts.
South Carolina had 4 2016 Gamecock commits on the East roster:
2B/PH Grant Bodison
OF Carlos Cortes
DH Joe Rizzo
3B Brandon McIlwain (2016 FB commit and Elite 11 QB)
2015 PG AA Classic MVP Carlos Cortes with former
San Diego Padre pitching great Trevor Hoffman. The
PG AA Classic was played in San Diego's Petco Park
The East beat the West in a pitchers duel 3-1. The East collected 9 hits, with Cortes going 2-4 and making some highlight defensive plays in the outfield to preserve the win. Cortes earned the All-American Classic game MVP for his efforts.
3B McIlwain went 1-3 with a triple and scored a run. DH Rizzo goes 1-1 and 2B/PH Bodison 0-1 but gets on base and records a stolen base for his efforts.

We offered Deke Adam's son, Jordyn Adams, a baseball scholarship today. #1 rated player in SC for the 2018 class, according to Perfect Game.

Perfect Game re-ranked their class of '16 Player Rankings, SC jumps to the #3 Overall Recruiting Class and has 5 of the Top100 players (that's a good and bad thing.)
Gamecock Commits class of 2016
No. 10: Joe Rizzo, 3B
No. 13: Carlos Cortes, Utility
No. 22: Brandon McIlwain, OF (also he's an All American QB)
No. 44: Grant Bodison, INF
No. 83: Rian Haire, LHP
No. 140: Joey Polak, 1B/3B
No. 156: Brad Debo, C
No. 238: Dalton Griffin, OF
No. 292: Josh Gregory, LHP
No. 334: Jonathan Jahn, LHP
No. 347: Sawyer Bridges, RHP
No. 400: Marc Coffers, Utility
No. 434: Riley Hogan, Utility
I would be surprised to see us hang onto 3 of the 4 highest rated recruits if the rankings are similar, those guys will get MLB drafted relatively high.
The good news here is...Holbrook can recruit...we all already knew that though.
The bad news is, there's a good chance that several of these guys will get MLB contracts and not play college ball.

I need to update this thing, hope to get to it relatively soon. Been super busy lately.
Hope to see some stay, I know JW has said we may get hit by a few from the MLB Draft from this class in particular.
