It's time for Mitch to walk the walk. He did enough last spring/summer to earn that start vs unc, but then he was out after the injury. Maybe he can use this spring to separate himself again from the pack. Hope it works out for him. He has all the talent needed to do it, he just has to show it.

Don't hold your breath for Mitch to perform. As the QB play last year proved he pretty much won the job by default and his interest in football is not at the level an SEC QB needs to be.

I'm guessing McIlwain will be starting game 1 but won't be named the starter until a week into fall camp

Who knows ... but based on the words straight outta the horse's mouth it's down to Orth and McIlwain with maybe Nunez somehow thrown into the mix as the wildcard.

Mitch and Scarnecchia might as well go ahead and transfer if Muschamp is done with them. I had heard Mitch had no chance .... but evidently Scarnecchia is wasting his time as well.

I really hope they get this right.

Scarnecchia, yeah when the only word the staff has mentioned about you all spring is that you "Got some snaps" its not a good sign.

I think I said this before on here, but one of the players told me these exact words: "Mitch doesn't want to win."

That said it all to me.

Honestly I think we should just stick with McIlwain. Kid has the drive to win and the smarts to do it. Who knows, we could get a Jameis type of season out of him, minus all the off the field bullshite of course. He seems like a competitor and I know his natural gifts are likely head and shoulders above Orth's. I say we just hand him the reins and see how he handles it.

Orth is a nice story, and the epitome of a student athlete.

But if he's the starting QB this season because he's the best we have, then this year is already doomed. He just doesn't have the talent needed to play in the SEC.

I heard he didn't care about football.

Knew he'd never doing anything here after that.

Scares the helloutta me, thinking we are going to have to start a true freshman this year. That's tough to do in this league once the balloon goes up.

And we had better have two or three ready to play because they can say Orth will be back by June 1 ... but he's not going to be ready. I've broken both of my clavicles and they hurt for awhile afterwards. Not necessarily during normal everyday function, but if you take a jar to your body ... it seems to reverberate right through those bones like a tuning-fork for a long time afterwards. And, if it was his throwing side clavicle that he broke ... ouch. It's gonna hurt for awhile.

Luckily it was his non-throwing arm. Still sucks though.

The fact that Muschamp has already said that McIlwain has already distanced himself from the rest of the pack with Orth, says to me that McIlwain is going to be the best option. He definitely has the speed and moves on the ground that you want in today's up-tempo, zone read offense. Orth, he can scoot a little but not nearly as well as McIlwain. From what I've read about everything, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets the starting spot week 1 or 2 of fall practices.
