Should we land Jones, I have to imagine with his age and experience he'd be the go-ahead behind Williams.

I think Jones would start over Williams by the 2nd or 3rd game, if not right out of the gate. Williams is straight line faster, but Jones is just a better RB, he has more moves/ellusiveness and makes more plays. I thought Williams would have done a lot more this year with Wilds being hurt so much again, but he didn't.

quote:

Chances Dowdle or Freeman get a RS this year?

I like both these RB's. Freeman is getting his speed back that he lost before the injury, but he's not all the way back with it. Dowdle is a complete and utter steal. He was N/R but winning all kinds of awards this year, and now 247 jumped him to a 4*, which he deserves. Dowdle is a bigger version of AJ Turner and he might actually be a step faster as well. I don't think Dowdle RS's, Freeman will probably RS.

With RB Depth, we'll hopefully have
Jr - Tyren Jones
RS Soph - David Williams
RS FR - AJ Turner and Mon Denson
FR - Dowdle and Freeman.

They need to have 3 active so Jones, Williams and either AJ or Dowdle will be the top3, IMO. Denson already RS'd so now I think Freeman might.

quote:

Starting to wonder how Roper would handle the running talent.

Roper wants to do less zone read and more power running, so he'll need several healthy RB's. He's going to go from a balanced offense like we've had in year's past to a more run favored (but not run heavy like a Ga Tech.)

-- Keep an eye on three-star defensive end Malcolm Roach (Baton Rouge, La./Madison Prep Academy) for an official visit on January 29. Roach is a current Texas commitment. He visited the Longhorns officially last weekend and while he doesn’t have a trip set up this weekend to see a school, he may travel to see South Carolina, which would be the same weekend as four-star defensive tackle and fellow Louisiana native Stephon Taylor (New Orleans, La./McDonogh 35)

4* DT Karamo Dioubate from PA set an OV for Sun-Tues. This is a big time prospect. He is going to Mich St on Fri-Sat, and then flying from there down to see us. This is all Lance Thompson's doing.

247 graded JUCO RB prospect, Tyren Jones, as a 4* today. I expect him to commit this weekend or shortly after.

This staff is just amazing.

Just amazing.

Just getting these visits ... plus filling needs like they are, if they close strong who knows. Sure is fun though.

3* SDE, https://247sports.com/Player/Jordan-Woods-24280, scheduled an OV to SC on Jan 29th. He's a vol lean, and uf and ga tech probably #2/#3. He's liked SC for a long while though and he had 26 TFL's and 9.5 sacks this season. He played at 6'4" 250 lbs this year, but he definitely has the frame to get up to the 270's and still hold good weight.

We're also bringing in 3* WR Randrecous Davis for an OV on the 29th. BMac was his lead recruiter at uga. Decent offer list, but we haven't officially offered yet that I've seen.

Another OV popped up for this weekend. 4* JUCO WR Javon Wims, he was supposed to go to OU but flipped the visit to SC. BMac was his recruiter as well at uga. He's been committed there since Nov. Great size/speed ratio, not a 4.4 burner, but probably 4.5 to mid 4.5's. Good leaping ability, makes plays, good body control, but even better awareness (knew where the out of bounds and markers were.) Would have liked to see more highlghts of his blocking. A CB came in for us to flip him, but uga still gets the last OV so I wouldn't think he's a lock to SC or anything.

According to Kipp Adams of 247Sports, four-star Georgia wide receiver commit Javon Wims of Hinds Community College in Mississippi will take an official visit to South Carolina this coming weekend.

Gamecocks co-offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon has a previously-existing relationship with Wims. He helped secure the 6-foot-4, 215-pounders commitment at UGA.

Wims is a native of Jacksonville, Fla., and is the No. 11 overall junior college prospect in the 2016 recruiting cycle per 247Sports Composite rankings.

3* DE Allen Carter

quote:

“He said can't wait to get me on my visit and pretty much talked about what he wanted to accomplish as South Carolina and how I would fit in,” the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Cater said. “He said they were thin on the defensive line and that I could play anywhere from the nine, seven, six, five, to the four technique in their scheme. He is a laid back guy away from the field.”

“Getting to see the campus and seeing what it’s like being a Gamecock for 48 hours. Can I see myself being successful and how me and my family like the school and all the people at the school. As well as the family feel of the university and the team.”

“No other visit planned. I would like to take a week to mediate on things and make my decision.”

“I will make my decision public on signing day. I may let the coaches know before then.”

It might be 3* SDC Mykelle McDaniels and his monster offer list. If those are confirmed offers, that really is a monster offer list.
https://247sports.com/Player/Mykelle-McDaniel-61727

Someone pointed out on another site that he changed his twitter background to Williams Brice.

New Commit, 3* TE Robert Tucker:

quote:

South Carolina picked up a verbal commitment from three-star tight end/linebacker Robert Tucker out of the Atlanta's Best Academy on Thursday, according to multiple sources.

Tucker is being recruited as a tight end by the Carolina coaching staff, but also could project as a linebacker.

Gamecocks receivers coach Bryan McClendon is his recruiter of record.

Robert Tucker Big Board Edition to come soon.

Some more news:

Robert Tucker scouting report

quote:

Two things stand out on film when you are watching new South Carolina tight end commit Robert Tucker (Atlanta, Ga./B.E.S.T. Academy). One, his size and speed/athleticism for a player that size and two, his excellent hands.

On film, he may remind some (and reminds me) of former South Carolina tight end Justice Cunningham, who came to the Gamecocks as a two-star defensive end out of Pageland (S.C.) Central and ended up being a valued contributor at tight end and then went on to be drafted and play in the NFL.

I just watched his hudl senior film and I'm not sure that Tucker kid ends-up a TE once we get him here ... he's got LB written all over him IMHO.

Danny Ford used to say, "recruit all the TEs and LBs you can sign because they can fit anywhere .... they're the best big athletes on the football field."

Just sayin', this Tucker kid, he looks like a future big linebacker to me at 6-3 230 now ... he could easily go 240-250 and still run. I looked at his offer list first and it was very unimpressive ... then watched the film and I was like WOW!

Makes me wonder if there are grade issues perhaps? I dunno? Offers from Indiana and UCF but that's it.

There is more to this story.

All I'm sure of is that we just scored with a helluvan athlete that has potential oozing out of his ears.

Urban Meyer went to see him yesterday and he already OV'd there with his teammate, Bosa, back in Oct. TRob also went by to see him yesterday and his mom really likes TRob. The predictions coming in for him to ohio state are from the ohio state site guys, so I wouldn't put too much to it. Muschamp still will get to go down for his in-home visit and he'll bring TRob and BMac with him.
