I came on here to post about Sam Bruce. Saw about his OV... Do we have a realistic shot? These are some stud WR's. Reminds me of Spurrier's first class in a way. Kenny, OJ Murdock, and Carlos Thomas (although he played D).

How many wideouts can we realistically take this go round?

Edwards and Champaigne are already on board, but I would have to think Ridley, Bruce, and Craig-Meyers would all get a scholly if they committed.
I think other than Neal, Googer, and Samuel, our WR cupboard seems bare. I hope Shaq Davidson and Jerad Washington can recover from their injuries.

Can't edit on my phone, but what I meant to say is that we would take those three if they all wanted to come.

Yes, with an OV we have a shot, but not as good as we have at Ridley. Right now we are in the longshot category, but the OV could change everything. Hopefully he will find some hospitable co-eds and all will go well.

4-5, Ridley, Bruce and Craig-Myers are all takes, if they want to come we'll take their commitment.

We already have:
Deebo Samuel (RS-So. 6-0, 202)(consensus high 3*): 5 gms, 12 receptions for 161 yds, 1 td
Terry Googer (RS-So. 6-4, 226)(Rivals & ESPN 4*, 247 high 3*): 11 gms, 5 rec. for 74 yds, 0 td
Shaq Davidson (RS-So. 5-11, 175)(247 & ESPN 4*, Rivals high 3*): DNP due to injury
DJ Neal (So. 6-3, 193)(Rivals & ESPN 4*, 247 high 3*) 9 gms, 8 rec. for 104 yds, 0 td
Jalen Christian (RS-Fr. 5-9, 177)(consensus 4*) DNP red-shirted
Christian Owens (RS-Fr. 6-5, 204)(Rivals & ESPN 4*, 247 high 3*) DNP red-shirted
Jerad Washington (RS-Fr. 5-8, 158)(consensus 3*) DNP red-shirt due to injury
Matrick Belton (RS-Sr. 6-4, 209)(walk-on) 12 gms, 11 rec. for 121 yds, 0 td
Hayden Hurst (So. 6-5, 252)(walk-on) 12 gms, 8 rec. for 106 yds
In addition to the incoming 6-3, 200 4* Bryan Edwards, 5-10, 168 2* Chris Smith, and 6-4, 180 unranked Diondre Champaigne, and anyone else who we're still going after. That's actually a fairly deep roster of WRs, albeit a pretty inexperienced corps as well.....

True, but with Jr's evals we'll always have a couple transfer-outs too.
The 2 Deep at WR will be wide open at Spring and Fall camps.

Wow looking at those receivers, you can really tell how impactful Cooper was.

A new target:
One such lineman could be Lawrenceville (Ga.) Archer three-star defensive tackle Kobe Smith, who decommitted from Kentucky over the weekend. The 6-foot-4, 295 pounder is an early enrollee and sources on the Kentucky end of things believe he could very well be headed to South Carolina.

Yep between Kobe Smith and Jamil Dukes, we could have 2 DT prospects that are basically on commitment watch right now. Dukes however is going to take an OV to us beforehand, but that could come in the next week or so....
But him and Smith are both around 6-4, 300 DTs....

Not to get tied up in the rankings, but neither of those guys are rated super high, yet they are huge! I am just getting into this recruiting thing, so is it more of a talent or exposure thing when ranking guys like this?

How has Christian Owens looked during practices?

These are the two I want to see break out next season.

I've followed it for a good few years now and I've learned that the star players on a team often weren't 5 stars. Sometimes that is a question of exposure, some schools just do a poor job of promoting their athletes and trying to get them looks from big schools, but it's been my experience that a lot of the guys who end up being stars in college are your lunch pail, blue collar type players who maybe developed a lot more in college once they got into a real lifting program.
A lot of 5 stars do pan out, a lot don't. When you look at the NFL, there are 2 star guys everywhere. What really matters how you develop in college and your motivation to get to the league.

Shaun Smith is doing some hard recruiting for us via twitter.

3* DE Allen Carter on his offer from SC:
quote:
“I have been talking with coach (Travaris) Robinson and coach (Coleman) Hutzler for a few weeks, and they told me what they are looking for and that they would love to have me visit,” the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Cater said. “They told me they wanted me to talk with coach (Will) Muschamp because he does the offering. He (Muschamp) called a few hours ago (and offered).”
“I like South Carolina and the tradition there. Coach Muschamp brings a lot to the table it’s definitely an eye opener with it being close to home. I am going to visit there the second week of January after my North Carolina visit. I’m not sure of any other visits yet.”
“What the family atmosphere is like and how do I feel around the coaches and players and being on the campus. Also, the graduation rate and if the guys are being successful after college. Can I see myself being there for four to five years to achieve my dreams and be successful. I also want to see what the coaches and teachers will do to help put me in a position to succeed and what resources there are for me as a student-athlete.”
“I want to have my decision figured out hopefully the week before signing day, but I won't go public until signing day. Every school that is offered since I decommitted has been recruiting me pretty hard. I did let Wake Forest know that I will be taking a different route and they told me the offer will always be there if I change my mind.”

Wow..very impressed with his mindset. I think he'll find everything he's looking for at USC.

January is going to be interesting ... mUSChamp has a reputation for being a strong closer in January.
We shall see.
