I thought you didn't want this?
I'm going to watch some netflix. If you don't have this cleaned up by morning I'll clean it up myself.

I want to know what the answer is but I don't want to have to come up with a new one

The alien overlords smile upon you. Nice work.
Out of curiosity, how did you get the Cistercian numerals so quickly? I definitely did not expect that one to be had with zero clues.

Also out of curiosity and so your work doesn't go in vain, what would your clues have been to get those solved?

Well frick. Random obscure knowledge trumped by reddit trend.
I hadn't settled on definite clues, would depend on responses, but would have started with simple word clues with similar sounds... ie. Sister seen/scene
Probably would have given some additional number clues with a picture of what they went to.
Lastly directed you to a local monk to see if you could decipher it.
ThereGoesHerschel, congratulations. As the usurper, it’s your turn. I ask only that your thread be titled “A Riddle” and that the 2 ancient rules found in the OP are passed on.

I would appreciate an explanation of the symbols without having to go to reddit.

Sure thing rig.
They are called Cistercian Numerals. Developed by the Cistercian monks in the early 1200s. They take any integer between 1 and 9999 and represent it as a single character... so much more compact than the Arabic numerals we are used to (but also more limited in their usage capacity).
The central vertical line is consistent, with "digits" coming off in different locations and combinations to account for the corresponding ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands value.
These days, really only good for ciphers/codes.
