In fairness, until 1968, bowl games, quite literally, were exhibitions. Champions were crowned prior to bowl season, and many times bowls simply tried to match up teams to maximize revenue. Outside a few bowls, there was no such thing as automatic bowl tie-ins. However, that system also didn't result in players deciding to skip them. But, the big difference is, very few players got rich playing football back then and they also had a lot more pride in their schools and the game than players do now.

The NCAA didn't even count bowl game stats until 2002.

This is a HIGHLY underrated and often not talked about massive benefit to the players. Not only do they receive a free education, room, board, stipend, access to the greatest coaches, trainers, facilities, etc., but universities provide a platform for athletes to showcase their talent to tens of millions of consumers before they become professionals. Ask brands how much they would pay to reach an audience of millions tailor made for their products. IMO, the most underrated benefit by far.

No. We are shutting down the football team and building a Top Golf where BHG sits now.

Playing against a top 20 defense without his 3 top targets.

It’s OU. I don’t care what the stats say. I don’t believe they have a good defense.
