What changed?
Wants to keep Johnson around for a few more years. Mullen is the OC, he calls the plays and is obviously very connected to the QB position (Johnson's old job).
This will help Johnson's resume going forward, as he'll be able to say he was an Offensive Coordinator, which is very likely what he wants to do in the future.
It's a title change for future jobs*, nothing more.
I mean, I wouldn't mind if he was around for a long time, but I imagine he has higher expectations than being a QB coach alone forever.

Translation, Johnson is getting calls. Hevesy and Gonzalez have been by Mullen's side as co-ocs for 10 years and no one else wants them (which was my point in the thread from the other day).

I agree that it is for 2 things.
1)justifies a pay raise to keep johnson.
2) helps his career.
But it also should emphasize to Florida fans that they should gripe and complain that Mullen is too loyal to some of his staff that are in over their heads at both Miss St and Florida (otherwise, they would have been poached over the past decade).

Wouldn't surprise me. They took Kyle Trask, a 7 year benchwarmer and turned him into the top returning SEC Quarterback in the middle of the season with an offense that wasn't built around him.

They have nice, high-paying jobs that they haven't left in a decade with a guy they've been working with for 20 years. They could very likely go to get jobs elsewhere, but why? They have a system that they're accustomed to and are getting paid to do it in a state with no income taxes lol.

Yeah, but it's not a big deal.
Points For: 432
Points/G: 33.2 (29th of 130)
Points Against: 201
Opp Pts/G: 15.5 (7th of 130)
from 13 - 11
to 21 - 5.
I'd say Florida fans are pretty happy with the results so far to completely turn the program around and get people talking about Florida again.

Lol
I told you why. There is no demand. No one is calling. Lol
Finally after 10 years, they got a demotion. But the question remains, where were the UF fans on the issue? Without any pulse on the program.
Do you think the demotion was forced by Strickland? Or do you think Mullen saw the risk of losing Johnson and felt that Hevesy/Gonzalez were in over their head?

That's my point. Florida fans are happy.
Happy with the results?
Or happy with the direction?
Mullen appears to have a long, long leash right now among the fanbase (probably longer than with strickland)

Gonzalez just put 4 UF WRs on NFL rosters this year. I think Hevesy is a good coach but the jury is still out on him coaching up a dominating O line. May be they just like working for Mullen.
UF fans do gripe about Mullen being too loyal. Greg Knox is not a fan favorite right now.

I will have to take your word for it.
I don't see it on the message boards.
But I realize that there is more to fandom than message boards.
Straws regularly complains about Mullen's loyalty to older QBs. That's the only loyalty question that I have seen (but I have no problem acknowledging that I'm not an expert on Florida despite seeing the need to demote Hevesy/Gonzalez a few days ago).

So when he calls plays is it going to sound something like this. Let’s run the Flick of a switch with and all out Shoot to thrill and then let’s hit them with Hells bells with a Whole lotta Rosie.

I think you're reading way too far into it and can't see the forest for the trees.
It is clearly just to justify a pay raise. Hevesy and Gonzales have both been treated well throughout their careers.
I know it's weird for a fan from a team that can barely retain a coach at any position, but this is what a healthy relationship between coaches looks like?

Lol. Ok.
I've been following football for a long time. I can agree to disagree. Cheers

Haven’t really been any issues between the coaches so I don’t think there is much to see here. People can read into it what they want I guess.

So now I'm confused.
Coaches routinely get demoted under Mullen? Demotions are a non-issue? 10 years as co-OC and everyone is great friends with the demotion?

It's all over the message boards. Knox is not popular.
As to this move, Gonzalez is now the passing game coordinator. Hevesy is the running game coordinator. I don't think anyone's roles have really changed.

Other than losing the Co-OC titles that they had the past decade? No. You are correct.

Yeah, their jobs are the same.
Those two guys aren't going anywhere since they've worked with Mullen for 20 years.
They are likely doing the exact same job for the same amount of money, or they may have even gotten bonuses.
Brian Johnson is very likely going to leave next year or the year after, why not throw him a bone? Hevesy and Gonzales go back to their exact same job, everyone is happy (apparently).
You guys lost more Quarterbacks in one year than we lost coaches, maybe worry about your own team?

I still remember his as a Utah QB. Time flies
