Unhealthy Obsession?

So we all know that Ole Miss didn't have any players drafted in the NFL, unfortunately. My experience since then has been Mississippi State fans pointing that out and posting memes about it.
I made the argument to one friend who is an MSU fan that he has an obsession of Ole Miss. He denies this of course.
I told him that instead of celebrating and bragging specifically about the several players that were drafted from Mississippi State (including Tommy Stevens somehow) that all he has done is talk about Ole Miss.
I have to ask, does anyone understand this obsession?
If it were me I would be talking about how I think each player from our team fits into the team that drafted them.

Ole Miss fans are just as obsessed state fans are just a little more radical about it. shite is embarrassing.

Since OM is a bigger out-of-state student population in modern times, those alums don't care as much about the Egg Bowl.
If feel like people from and MS live the rivalry more from day-to-day, so it means more to them.

I was born and raised in MS so I can understand some getting really into it. My first thought though when we have success is "awesome, good for whomever involved, good for Ole Miss, etc." Not oh yeah State doesn't have that or how did State do.

When you have no achievements of your own then you tend to look for other things you can point to that help yourself feel better about current situation.
