The Box for those who dont know is how many defenders are between the OTs, up to 5 yards off the LOS.
Multiple times lastnight when we questioned the run game, certain ppl on here responded saying due to lack of a pass threat that the D has 8 in the box.

This
Is
Not
True

Watching the game again today and UTM had a base 3-2-6, of 3 DL with 2 LBs who were either in the A gaps or 4 yards off the LOS. = 5 men in the box. With 2 high safeties and a DB to the strength side - TE side of our formation.
They stuffed our runs most of the night from this base, that is not good

Watch the play where Toney was hurt and the one that followed, both stuffed from this set.
Even the Franks run on 4th down was stuffed. Not one play have I seen where they had more than 5 in the box.

Its obvious to most that we have issue on the OL and it needs to get fixed soon. UK may not have Terry Wilson at QB and has some issues on defense such as their entire secondary is new. We may just get by, but expect a close hard fought game. Then UT comes to the Swamp and eraserhead is on the red hot seat.

AU has its problems on offense...run game isn't sound yet even against Tulane. Baby Nix wasn't that good.

LsU beat a Texas team that lost 8 starters off its already porous defense from a year ago. Joey burrowing owl had a field day against a poor defense. So don't crown them as world beaters just yet.

Our Ol isn't an easy fix, one thing we are lacking is a solid TE blocker. Actually I think we would be better off with six OL and create run lanes.

Well, we have to understand that we aren't in the QB room and on the sidelines....we don't know what Mullen told Franks pregame and it would not surprise me that he instructed Franks to throw easy short passes till later in the game....why? Mullen is smart enough to know opponents are going to try and stop the run game and it was a great game to practice short passing game for future SEC foes.
We executed this to perfection against Moo State last year and wore their defense down.

Franks has probably been coached up to not showboat anymore....although every single game on TV yesterday had players strutting and showing biceps and being "look at me". Its just college football these days and I think Franks realize he has been the somewhat unfair poster boy image.

I was on another site and some were moaning that WRs were open downfield....but if Franks was told not to throw downfield early in game?

The key to a W against UK is no turnovers...if we do that we win by double scores.

Joe Burrow went 31 of 39 for 471 yards and 4 touchdowns and had the best game he has ever had. When you're not a liability you can do whatever you want.

He had a better game against one of the best teams in the BIG than Franks did against an FCS.

Burrow faced a lame arse defense missing 8 starters from 2018 and they weren't all that good last year. Texas on offense is good, but defense?

Get over yourself Straws...its a broken record. This thread had nothing to with Burrows....it is an intelligent discourse about football. But you have to throw in shite, what the hell is wrong with you?

Straws has no idea what's going on during a football game and him saying teams put 8 in the box against us was laughable.

They haven't done that since Muschamp would put 7 OL on the field with Mike G.

Pay him no mind

Also la tech beat that juggernaut known as Grambling yesterday

By the whopping score of 20 - 14

So would not be surprised to see Texas lose 2 possibly 3 more games

Everyone from Mullen, who was so pissed at the O-line that he was swearing on the radio broadcast to the analysts on WRUF to Lee McGriff to the TV analysts noted our O-line had serious run-block issues.

By my count, at least 10 people last night either on radio or TV flatly stated that our run blocking was not what it should have been against UT Martin and that if that continues, the inability to establish any kind of run threat is going to be a serious problem for our passing game against better teams.

I suppose we could all be wrong - all of them and all the posters here - or maybe, just maybe there is actually a problem with the O-line's ability to run-block that is independent of Franks. I know which explanation is more parsimonious, hence why I am also more worried about that than the QB situation right now.

If UT Martin can shut us down for a half running what they were running, it's going to be tough sledding against legit defenses regardless of who is QB.

Lucious, this why I brought up the TE situation. We don't have a stout TE that can be counted on to effectively run block...my suggestion is not to have TEs on the field, except maybe Kitts as a WR and put in an extra OL to help create run lanes.

This why I am wondering if Franks was given marching orders by Mullen to practice short passes for future opponents, then throw a few bombs. Cause if we cant run well against LSU, UGA then we are doomed unless the defense plays lights out and keeps us in the game.

I think you might be the only gator fan I know that actually watches the games just to bitch about them later.

But I guess we all take our entertainment differently.

I find it crazy our pass blocking has been more solid than run blocking. Usually it's the opposite for newer lines.

Really need to get it fixed quick though. We can't get into the chunk of the SEC schedule without being able to get blockers to the second level to break off a few big run plays a game.

Also our TE's are terrible at blocking. Gamble seems to purposefully find the wrong person to block

While they did not have many players in the Box. Every defender was with in 10 yards of the LOS.

UFs OL just have done a better job getting push. UTM 3 DLs do have legit size but they are not SEC level DLs.

That said they did a great job in finishing their tackles on short yardage situations.

10 yards off the LOS we should be making runs of at least 4-5 ypc then even if unblocked at all and meeting half way??

I just saying that they were playing every close to the LOS. The term in the box can be misleading based on formation.

We should be able to run on UT Martin no matter what. In the first half we did not.
