I recall thinking he was just a late addition to fill a roster spot. Never been happier to be wrong. What a hard working teammate.

I gained a lot of respect for him in the Bama game where every time he tackled Tua he tried to break his leg under the pile. It was dirty, but I loved it.

It's a Hawk Tackle. There isn't anything dirty about it. It keeps the defender from initiating contact with the helmet.

The hawk tackle is what Pete Carroll has been pushing for a few years and is how Odom teaches his players to tackle.

I can't remember if it was the Bama game or other games, but there were definitely some plays where he got somewhat nasty (nothing ridiculous) where continued on well after the tackle (Hawk or otherwise) was clearly completed. I loved it too.

Go to the 22:36 mark and watch Garrett's tackle of Bama's wr Ruggs and tell me watch you think of that tackle. He tried to break his leg off, but I loved it and wish that we had guys that would get nasty like that sometimes. Mizzou really looked slow in this game and Sparks should never play.

He had a hold of the guy and followed through with the tackle. I’d hardly say he was trying to break his leg. I don’t think it was dirty. It was just hard played ball.

Here a video of Carroll teaching the tackle. Garrett’s tackles exactly the way it’s taught here
