Turning your back on your family's school or team?

If you grew up in the South you know that most families have a school that they pull for and that it often spans generations.
At some point in your life did you turn your back on that family school/team and become a hardcore fan of another? A rival or archrival?
If so, why did you do it? Other team was better? Outside influence/peer pressure? Just to be contrary?
NOTE: I am not talking about if you attended another school and changed allegiance because of that.

College should be about bettering yourself not going because of a sports team.

I agree completely. Reading comprehension is an important skill.

I grew up in Alabama. My family were all Bama fans. Being the youngest I naturally rebelled and chose Auburn. My earliest memories were Auburn winning the NC in 1957, Bear coming home, and the misery of Alabama winning way too often.

Parents went to Clemson and dragged me to a million football games there.
Sister and I went to UGA. We haven't been forgiven.
Go Dawgs.
