You fire Avery and do it. I don’t think the buyout with Avery is of much concern if you can get the right coach. If you keep Avery, attendance next year plummets. If you hire Steve Prohm, the attendance, like anytime a new coach is hired, will cause a large spike in attendance and eats away at the buyout you paid Avery.

Short term, will we come out ahead financially? Probably not, but the money lost would be negligible in the grand scheme of things. Long term will we come out ahead? Depends on the success of Steve Prohm, but I think it’s a high percentage gamble a good AD needs to make. Byrne needs to get this right. He’s the guy who will replace Saban. He better get used to the scrutiny.

The money is there to pay the buyout and hire a premium coach.

The chief concern is making sure the next coach is the correct man to lead the program into a very competitive SEC field over the next 5-10 years.

We need a coach that doesn't mind chopping wood. One that doesn't care if the money's no good. Just so long as we get the very best.

Just as long as, like his father before him, he's a working man.
