Roughly one year later, how do we feel about Bryan McClendon?

Last year I was pretty excited about his promotion, especially after what we saw in the bowl game. From looking at the stats it really looks like he righted the ship:

Year RK TEAM YDS YDS/G PASS P YDS/G RUSH R YDS/G PTS PTS/G

2018 46 South Carolina 5282 440 3329 277.4 1953 162.8 391 32.6

2017 102 South Carolina 4382 337 2794 214.9 1588 122.2 315 24.2

I'm not as wonky or insightful as most of the posters here but it looks really good.

What's your opinion of him and how long can we hope to have him here before he gets an HC offer he can't ignore?

I hope we keep him a few years, long enough to get Hilinski rolling in the offense. That was considering the beginning of the year where we were in a lull and struggling to learn the playbook. Imagine the beginning of next year guns blazing.

Yea I could see McClendon putting on a show with Hilinski. It should be a good time.

I think he did a pretty good job, and definitely improved over the course of the season. So many of our early season woes were execution. Either Jake sucked or the WRs were dropping passes. Neither of those things BMac could control. Whatever change happened when he came down from the booth though worked. I also think Scar playing great against Mizzou lit a fire under Jake. I'm excited about next season's potential, hoping that Stanley and Edwards return.

As far as how long we'll keep him. If we improve again next year against the schedule we have, I'd say 2-3 more seasons with BMac at most.

I love it.
And quite frankly.

I hope Hilinski is as good as advertised and beats out Jake.

Not because I hate Jake (I don't) but because in this day and age of CFB Freshman make significant strides and become significant players from day 1.

Tua should have been all year last year, and Fromm with UGA.

But we can hope.

If Hillinski is as talented as advertised he will have no issues beating out Jake.

The whole "freshman don't know" mantra is pretty antiquated now days. I mean we've had 2 Freshman win heismans (yea i know RS, but still they had 0 game time experience) and last years national title game's QBs were Freshmen.

I wonder why he didn't stick around. Remind me, did Kirby completely clean house or could he have stayed had he wanted?

can't speak for Dawg, But I feel like Kirby didn't wanna give him the OC title. Keep him at RBs/WRs or whatever, while we offered him the Co-OC title and pay bump.

Then again he probably said "you should go interview somewhere else"

Id rather they Redshirt him, put him in 4 games for some game experience. Then after a year of knowing the program and what its like in game just give the whole program over to him in 2020

what if say the start of the season he plays well, then comes in to a big game, spells Jake and wins?

Do you keep him going or still use the red shirt?

as said, IF he is as good as advertised you hope he doesn't stay all 4 years.

Kirby wanted to give his OC complete input on offensive hires outside of Sam Pittman that was his #1 goal in hiring his offensive staff. The only guys he kept were Kevin Sherrer and Tracy Rocker both of them are at UT now.

Had Bama fans insinuate Muschamp isn't the answer at the HC position and that the answer is already on our staff..BMac. That he is the one who would get us to the next level.

What do y'all think about that view?

Time will tell on Muschamp. But I think BMac is a star in the making. I'd hate to lose him.

I think it's a high risk but could be a higher reward.

I never was a fan of the muschamp hire from the start, I'll stay back on it and wait till it plays out but I really don't think he would be a GREAT HC hear.

Hopefully I'm wrong and I'm going to wait and see but I don't think it will be likely with him.

If he keeps the offense in the same trajectory as this year I think We only keep him for 2 more years. I personally think the biggest improvement with the offense was due to Wolford and the offense line.

By the way KSG I have been reading your post and threads throughout the rant and have to say very impressed. You are easily one of the top 3 posters/leaders in the rant!

I could see this. Genuinely.

Champ would have to leave for Auburn, though. Tanner ain't firing Muschamp for a never-been already on staff.

We miss him. Unfortunately after going head to head recruiting for some time, Bmac and Kirby aren't the best of friends. Worked out great for Bmac. He didn't want to go to Miami so he could be closer to home. Hope you guys keep him around because he's a good coach and a class act.

I think BMac needs at least 5 years as an OC before he will be ready to be HC anywhere. He was a solid player and assistant at Georgia and we hated to lose him.
As for Muschamp, I think he is close to reaching his peak as an HC.
