Why Won't He Resign?

Why are coaches so averse to resigning when it's obvious they will not get things turned around? Is it the money? Is it pride? I understand you don't want a coach with a defeatist attitude, but at some point the coach needs to be a realist. At some point they need to put the players and the institution over their pride.

Chiz should have resigned after TAMU in 2012. The team would have been better off with BVG as interim. Likewise Gus should resign and let Steele or RG finish out.
