I don't see any scenario where we are good any time soon

-Bama has at least 5 more years of Elite teams, theyre not going anywhere soon
-UGA is obviously doing well and Kirby has no reason to leave, they'll be good for decades
-Mullen is a good coach and will have UF back rolling here soon

I like Pruitt but I just don't see how a first time head coach will be able to consistently compete given the situation he inherited. In 3-5 years we'll be right back in the same boat looking for a coach for a program that hovers around .500 for the previous 20 years.

Im not switching fanhood, I will always be a Vol. But im realistic. We cant win our division after beating UGA and UF in the weakest east in history. We havent been relevant since 07 (I don't care we were ranked top ten that one time in the middle of the season). We havent been Elite since 01.

Has history passed us by? Will we ever even sniff ATL again? Is it time for conference realignment?

Someone walk me off this ledge. Or pile it on

I need to see how Pruitt operates for a season or two before I bail on his ability to beat Kirby.

I won't necessarily be judging wins and losses. I just want to see him avoid the coaching mistakes that Butch could never rise above.

If Butch beat Kirby with the talent that was already at Georgia, Pruitt can do it too.

We also can't rule out Muschamp beating Germy on the recruiting trail, OP.

True. I think the real problem is that we all know we're staring down the barrel of a shitty season whether Pruitt is any good or not.

I don’t think we will ever be great again. The best seasons will probably be 8/9 wins with an upset over a rival.

Pruitt is going to be our coach until Bama hires him to replace Saban, that's the end of the story.

Pruitt is going to get this team to work, because he's a grown arse man, it's not gimmicks, it's not flashy, it's just damn work each and every day.

I'd hoped that Zook was exactly who Butch would turn out to be if he proved a failure. Zook is painted as the worst coach ever but he wasn't as terrible as his reputation (just not very good and definitely not elite - iow mediocre). However, more importantly Zook recruited like gangbusters and left behind a decent roster for the next hire which I'd always believed Butch would do (ugh, was I wrong there).

For all the roster rebuilding Butch did, he burnt through it almost as quickly and the damage he was allowed to do last season set back a lot of the progress that had been made. I don't think we're as bad off as we were when Kiffin and Dooley left/were fired but we're also not as well off as we should've and could've been had things not been allowed to go into a total meltdown last season.

It's a damn shame that we're barely ahead of where we were roster wise. Particularly infuriating is that the OL was never fixed and that is a unit that desperately needs depth and physical maturation to even be competitive. We still don't have enough warm bodies there. Of all the positions it takes the most time and work to fix -- for it to be where it's at makes me sick to think about.
