I have no love for lsu or notre dame but seriously, what was Brian Kelly supposed to do? He met with them face to face. He didn't leave in the middle of the night. He didn't spray paint "I'm outta of this hell hole" in the players lounge or anything. I think the players probably understood that he is gonna make millions of dollars and they would do the same thing given a similar opportunity. Is there some type of coach leaving etiquette the rest of us don't know about that he should have followed?

There is no coaching etiquette for these situations.

The urgency to get a guy in place prior to the early signing day combined with the bright spotlight on every movement by anyone in the athletic department of a school making a hire means that everyone involved has to lie, either outright or by omission.

Meeting with his team at all, especially after it got out, is more than most coaches do.
