That’s what OM wants to be, but the tides have turned. I’d bet my right arm that a State engineering grad makes more these days than the OM small town pizza lawyers, and they both put grads into UMMC, which isn’t theirs but belongs to the whole state. I agree that the culture and perception persists, but I wonder how many of those luxury cars being driven around Oxford are leased or eat up an outrageous percentage of a family’s income. I have a few anecdotes that support that proposition, but I don’t know for sure.

I agree with you. I don't have any dog in the hunt but ever since I visited those campuses in the mid '80s I was struck how hard Ole Miss tried to be that particular "image" and how hard MSU tried not to be. Back then Starkville was completely just your basic normal town. Nothing about it was "pretentious or "dressed up".

We just announced a 1.5 BILLION dollar academic fundraising campaign last week with ONE BILLION already secured. Now you don’t have to wonder.
