Why is LSU’s defense playing so much better now with backups?

Is it guys trying to prove themselves, or were the starters not playing to potential?
I don’t see how they did so well against Arkansas and Bama without the best two corners in the SEC.

Starters are kind of selfish kids. You saw it as well last year when the opt outs occurred half way through the season

Why aren’t more teams using the cover 0 then? The Dolphins started doing it against the Ravens and it also worked. Maybe cover 0 is the way to go moving forward.

My theory is that O bowed out after he got fired and the DC has gotten better with some games under his belt and is actually running the show now.

Well they have had two years of quitters so the ones that want to play are playing.

It's a combination of blitzing, backups playing with more heart and simplifying the scheme/pre-snap reads IMO. I think as the season has progressed, our DC has started to earn more of his mettle. Also, if you look at the Auburn game as well, if we could have contained Nix, that might have been a win too.

Hungry players, it's to the benefit of the younger guys to impress whoever the new coach is
Clark and Baskerville even though both are seniors are putting some good stuff on tape for NFL scouts
Their stock is rising
Clark may have played himself into 2nd round with his play
