This reminds me of 2009, when Cincinnati was undefeated going into the bowl games and ended up playing Florida while Alabama and Texas played for the national title.

Undefeated Cincinnati ended up losing to Florida 51-24 and it was only that close because Florida pulled had 2nd and 3rd string in while up 44-10 to start the 4th quarter.

But they were undefeated PAWL! (Not to mention that version didn't have as many close wins against mediocre to awful teams)
