So our defense took a pretty big hit in the pass rush. Does this put more pressure on the offense to put up points? Does the identity of our defense change at all?

Beal isn’t quite the pass rusher he is but he does do a better job setting the edge. I think the main thing is our personnel packages just won’t be as versatile. AA was so athletic we used him a lot of different ways.

Nolan Smith is his primary replacement, per practice reports. MJ Sherman will get more time, along with Smael Mondon.

Helps to have all these 5 and 4 stars you can move up but main change is that he was used as a STAR at times.

Definitely a loss as far as a pure pass rusher who could also drop and cover but...next man up.

Nolan Smith and Beal have been playing the jack.

We have been rotating travon walker in that spot as well.

AA is playing sam/star.
Obviously Brini is a role there.
But Nolan Smith was in that role last season as well.

We still have pieces to he elite.
We just arent quite as good as earlier. AA could do everything except set the edge as well as the others.

Adam Anderson is not the best player on the D. That would be Nakobe Dean then Jordan Davis IMO. But he was capable of doing things that nobody else can do. The speed was incredible. Great tackler. Great in space. Hell a great special teams player too. It’s a big hole. He was my favorite player on the team and was just getting to show what he was capable of. Really sad situation.

Beal

There's a good example of a forgotten former high 4-star recruit and Under Armour All American. I forget he's still on the team at times. Solid player but never lived up to the hype he had coming in. Who knows, though, maybe he'll do something special now with more time.

Of course Nolan Smith was the #1 LB nationally in 2019 and a consensus 5-star all-everything. Would be nice to see him show the kind of impact to match but he's likely not going to be able to do everything Anderson did. Hard to duplicate Anderson's length, athleticism, and ability to play in space.
