This spread run game is too easy to defend with a loaded box. Need a lead blocker and a crashing back. Not a flat footed back and more defenders than blockers.

Stupid play calling at the goal line.

Kirby is on record saying he doesn’t like using a scholarship on a FB. They really haven’t had a walk on either since 17.

Yet everytime we use Jalen Carter as a FB it works. It’s almost like having a 100% no FB philosophy is dumb. Train some 8th team LB or something.

I do agree. Last year there was talk that Nate McBride was going to cross train but them camp got canceled by COVID.

I’d also Harken back to the Sec CG against Auburn. We used Holyfield as a FB and it worked great.

There was a walk on FB on that team that played a lot. I’m pretty sure he had a catch or two in the SECCG. I don’t remember his name but he was the last FB who played significant snaps as a FB.

Really, all tightends or back up linebackers could do it for a few series a game.

It was Christian Payne.

Absolutely true. We used to use Figgins in that role a lot circa 2011. Bowers is good size and athleticism for it too. Washington probably too big.

Fitzpatrick did it quite a bit in 2020.

I really think it’s that we are too predictable inside the 5 yard line. If we showed the ability to pass for a TD that close a few times teams might not load up so much for the run. But it seems inside the 5 we just believe so much in our ability to run that we do it no matter what.

Perfect.

So we can just make it easier for em to stack the box.

Sorry our offense is much more flexible without one especially with our TE's.

There's a reason the FB is disappearing from most modern CFB offenses.

The fact football is shinkibg to play the spread is all the more reason to do it.

And then in a few years, some team will re-introduce them, and everybody will be gobsmacked. It's just the way of things.

Didn't Jalen Carter play that roll a couple of times?

Not sure we would invest in a fulltime QB when you have TEs like Washington and Bowers.

Followed by the power I and eventually the T formation.

Not gonna happen.
There's much more to gain by adding an extra athlete that can stretch out opposing defenses and get in space.

Now,if the CFB Gods make a few rule changes that brings back some balance to the defense almost anything can happen but don't hold your breath.
