Tell-the-Truth Saturday

It's almost here.

In a little over 24 hours, around 3:30 pm eastern or so, the 'discussion/debate' will all be over.

And we'll know exactly for sure what the plan is at QB going forward.

Anybody care to make a prediction on how this plays out tomorrow? (who will start/are reps shared/if so, how and when/etc etc /and all that kind of thing)

Not how you want it to play out. But how you predict it will play out. Or hell, share both if you want

I wouldn't say that necessarily. I mean JT is the starter and the better QB, and insiders on other boards have hinted that his sitting isn't physical or mental related. Reading between the lines I'm curious if he's being suspended? If that is the case, it's actually pretty awesome for Kirby to not announce it since it could hurt JT come draft time. His last action was against Vandy, so let's say he had to serve a 6 game suspension (I'm totally makign that number up but I remember in the richt era when we'd have guys suspended a lto one of the progressions was like "half season" or 6 games I think???) that would put him out through Tennessee. I think Charleston Southern is the game that we'll actually know something. CSU should be an absolute gimme so that'd be a perfect game for him to knock the rust off and play for a half, then start against tech leading into SECCG. If he hasn't played even in the CSU game then I'll just shake my head and wonder wtf is going on

I'm more concerned of a team mental letdown/breakdown over the more pressing thing than who the QB is.

Stet took every single snap last Saturday. All of them.

If he does so again tomorrow, it’s over. He’s the starter for the duration

Lol Or maybe that means he isn't beating out Stetson in practice.

If the plan is to eventually let JT take over, or that they hope he can take over, then the opportunity couldn't be scripted any better than it is with midwestern Vandy coming to town tomorrow.

If JT is going to take over for the home stretch to ATL, or if they want to test him out to see if that is the plan, then he will get substantial playing time tomorrow

Selfishly I really want to see some of JT tomorrow, but my gut tells me that Kirby Smart is going with Stetson Bennet the IV all the way to ATL and beyond. So I predict that Stet gets every single snap again tomorrow.

Scoutie Stetson starts, gets first 2 drives. JT comes in for next two drives. From there, coaches will make the decision based on situation and how the team responds to each.

Not concerned the rest of this season.

Not this week. We got this. However, will the team be there mentally/care/etc over AA's stuff? And not just this game, but esp Atlanta and moving forward.

I think Bennett starts and they rotate QBs every 2 series to knock the rust off of Daniels until the game is out of hand. Then Beck gets the honor of handing the ball off to run out the clock.

Beck is done per insiders. It got lost in the AA news yesterday.

Prediction

Stet starts. That's the easy take. What happens after that is a wild guess. I will guess JT comes in at some point, simply because I want to see him so much that I know the coaches kinda want to see him in a game again too.

Is this true? Like, there is some serious insider info that he is going into the transfer portal?

That’s why tomorrow is so interesting and will be so revealing and definitive.

In 2017, Kirby made up his mind about Fromm and that was that. Eason was never brought in and allowed to try and win back his job. Or to see if he could improve on what the offense was doing under Fromm. I don’t remember ever seeing Eason take a snap again except in mop up time

The speculation for JT not playing last week was “continuity” and “the hot hand” against a competitive team so maybe let JT heal more. But maybe that was only part of it. This week the only explanation for JT not playing and playing some early before game is out of hand…would be that JT is now QB2.

Kirby won’t need to announce it. We’ll know by what happens on the field

If they swap possessions or quarters etc, then kirby is still experimenting. But if JT doesn’t play until game is out of hand, I think pecking order has been decided

Wouldn't be a loss, really.

I’m starting to think the only way JT wins starting job back is if Stet struggles at some point and THEN jT comes in to save the day

Makes you wonder about that magical 2 minutes and 9 seconds last week. Would JT have started the second half if it was 3-0? Would he have won it back then and there?

That just seems very unlikely to me. It would have to be an incredibly well kept secret and if he had done something to warrant a 6-game suspension, it's hard to imagine it not being made public.

Bottom line is, the staff already knew Stetson's pros and cons prior to the season. It's not like he hadn't been around for about 5 years. Yet they still named Daniels the starter after spring and pre-season practice. Then, Daniels is sat down after playing a quarter and getting a big lead over Vanderbilt. He stays sitting since then. This suggests the injury but it's definitely possible Kirby was doing what he usually does...saying that the injured guy is "close" when he really isn't going to be playing yet.

So now, allegedly, Daniels is healthy...allegedly. Assuming that's true and he is 100 percent healthy, he should play significantly in this game.

If Daniels does not play at all, or if he barely plays (like going in with a few minutes left), then something has gone awry. I think he then will need to make a decision about where he wants to be next year, because I think he will elect to play somewhere rather than declare (if he isn't going to be playing much or any for remainder of the year).

Thus far, though, Daniels on the sideline has not been giving off a vibe of a disgruntled or disengaged player. If he were getting the message that he is like a benched Eason, I would think he would say "screw it" and could theoretically bail on the team even prior to playoffs. (Which of course would not be good...what if Bennet got hurt?). But I don't get any sense that's what's going on. I saw Daniels very engaged during last game and at one point, he and Bennett were talking at length on the sidelines...later it was said to be about coverages or something.

Prediction?

Bennett starts. Daniels plays a quarter and a half.
I think Daniels will get similar reps through the next game or two but will eventually take over the starters job by the SECCG.
