There should be a push to punish the fricking morons who did it. Tens of thousands in fines, restitution and court costs would deter any other moron from ruining it for the rest of us.

Of course they should, but, what will really happen will be like Jan 6. 1% of the offenders will get a slap on the wrist and nothing else will happen.

There is no deterrent for this, you think drunk college kids are thinking things through? It doesn’t happen often but it does happen and every single sec student section is capable of something like this. Let’s be real.

Nothing those kids did would constitute more than a disorderly conduct charge under TN code. That's a class C misdemeanor. Class C misdemeanors have a max fine of $50. That's not much of a deterrent, if any. Those cases would also be pled out day 1 in court, so court costs would also be nominal. Knoxville Judges can't go beyond their judicial authority to "send a message"

For reference:
quote:

39-17-305. Disorderly conduct.

(a) A person commits an offense who, in a public place and with intent to cause public annoyance or alarm:

(1) Engages in fighting or in violent or threatening behavior;

(2) Refuses to obey an official order to disperse issued to maintain public safety in dangerous proximity to a fire, hazard or other emergency; or

(3) Creates a hazardous or physically offensive condition by any act that serves no legitimate purpose.

(b) A person also violates this section who makes unreasonable noise that prevents others from carrying on lawful activities.

(c) A violation of this section is a Class C misdemeanor.

They are reviewing footage and arresting people. 18 have been arrested thus far. If they were a student, they face potential bans from future games.
