My hope is that Oats recognizes and rectifies the roster issues from this year through recruiting (check) and the portal (TBD).

He sure needs to get better at identifying “fits” in the portal. We have struggled

People want to blame Oats, alright let's play a game. Who do you want back from this roster next year? I genuinely want Bediako and of course Burnett back. The rest? Eh. So the whole "wasted talent" take doesn't really fly.

JQ and Shack are undersized and were abused on defense all year. JQ's shooting numbers came back down to average as well. JD wasn't the guy we hoped for, he was all "potential." Ellis didn't take the jump we hoped for. Gary isn't a fit and it became abundantly clear after his injury. Miles gets labeled with "potential" as well but looks lost half the time on the court. Rojas, for all the talent we apparently have, gets way too many minutes. Hopefully, another offseason for Gurley will make him a more serviceable rotation player next year. Tchikou was a bust due to injuries. Holt was never expected to play, if he can starting making shots then who really knows but at least he brings effort.

There was no leadership on the team this year, it was made clear when two of our upperclassmen were suspended for our exhibition game. We've heard rumors these guys don't really like to train (this came from talk at REC meetings), and the loss of our guys from last year were a bigger impact than we expected.

I'm pretty excited to gut most of this roster. We have a true PG coming in, a lot of length and talent, a couple of shooters, and some big guys that can play above the rim. Let's tackle the transfer portal hard and get another ball-handler, shooter, and maybe a stretch 5.

Edit: This doesn't mean Oats is without criticism, obviously there are some very valid critiques.
