I'm saying the description is fluid. And no fan-base can ever be so confident that "my team will always win" or, if the stars align, so defeated that "my team will never win".

James Franklin is only at Penn State because of Joe Paterno. Who was a shite in my book. But without a doubt ... he raised a cow college to "destination job".

The label is not permanent. It's not like you gain "destination job" status and suddenly get extra recruiting visits. Nor are you on some "outside club" without "destination job" status.

Who in their right minds want to go to Nebraska now ? Former "destination job". Anybody want to follow up at Michigan ?

Neither Nebraska nor Michigan seemed to have any trouble hiring a coach during their last search so your "point" doesn't really make sense.

Certain schools have the resources to recruit elite athletes and win big and certain ones don't.

It's just the way it is.

That is EXACTLY my point.

Let's look at Miami. Former "destination job". And every time we see them do a coaching hire ? The candidate pool gets smaller. Let's look at Tennessee. Same deal. No longer a "destination job". It's not a permanent title.

Think of all 130 or so football schools on a number line. There is no mark where "destination school" suddenly grants permanent advantages. That's not how it works at all. And schools can, and do, rise and fall on that continuum.

Just ask Nebraska. Miami. Michigan. Those schools used to power "Perennial Powers". That was the term thrown around back in the day. But they are power players no more.

Watch their next hiring search. It'll be a little less bold than the last one. That's inertia.
