I can not speak for others but I knew Rupp personally and still know his family to this day. Much of what was printed about him is wrong and the hype started by a wanna be reporter stirring the pot after he was dead and could not respond personally.
I can tell you 1 thing, Bear did not leave KY over a lighter. He let that story go so he could recruit the state of KY for football players. I am friends with several of them.
Another thing, Rupp could care less about race if they could play basketball. He was competitive but old school. He sent you a letter and that was it. As an old school coach he did not coddle you to come to UK black, white, or polka dotted.

He only had 1 black player in 42 years. Black players began dominating the game by the 50's. How do you explain that?
