He was inducted into the college football hall of fame. Arkansas would have been better had he stayed but he went back up north because the fan support was much better at the time and Arkansas was seen as a club sport.

It wasn't until 1954, the 25 little pigs with another hall of famer in Bowden Wyatt that finally got the attention across the state. One of the most important seasons in Arkansas history.

I've heard he was upset that we wouldn't join a conference while he was there. Which left the team vulnerable to things like the infamous Ouachita Baptist where they "hired" our starting QB the night before our game against them and got a copy of our playbook to boot.

Regardless, you are right. It was an early brush with success that we couldn't sustain. We had some very good coaches who would do well for a year or two and then head off to what they saw as greener pastures until the mid 50s.
